Individuals have two types of focus involving privacy and technology: a person’s concerns with organizational practices towards the privacy of personal information (management focus), and the person’s self-efficacy of computers (technology focus). People view management of personal information and information technology as unrelated issues. The authors hypothesize that there is no relationship between a person’s concerns for information privacy (management focus) and his/her self-efficacy towards computers (technology focus). The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between computer self-efficacy, and concerns for personal information privacy.

Privacy laws for the Internet are difficult to develop and implement domestically and internationally. A clear problem is how such laws are limited to national jurisdictions. What is legal in one country may be illegal in another. Due to differences in cultures and values, and government types, it may not be possible to establish global standards and legislations to ensure privacy. Due to the nonexistence of global privacy standards, multinational (international) companies usually select one of the following two possible solutions: (1) implement a most restrictive “one size fits all†privacy policy that is used across various countries, or (2) implement different privacy policies that meet the privacy regulations of different countries and expectations of those citizens. In order to investigate a solution that may be used by multinational companies, and how companies view domestic privacy laws, the authors conducted a survey of U.S.-based employees of domestic and multinational companies. The results of the survey suggest that the majority of the multinational companies prefer the first solution—most restrictive “one size fits all†approach. They develop and implement a single set of privacy policies that is used across their operations in different countries. The majority of the companies surveyed consider domestic privacy laws in the United States to be practical, but ineffective.

ABSTRACT The concept of Web services has attracted a lot of attention during the last few years. Web services allow a distributed system that is made up of many different computers to communicate over the familiar network, the Internet, to form one system. The communication standards and protocols used in Web services are universally accepted open standards. Web services are designed for machine-consumption that expose a Web-accessible program interface. This kind of service can be requested by any type of client application–Web-based, desktop or mobile. The authors of this paper provide an overview of Web services and discuss the potential of improving supply chain processes through the use of Web services.

ABSTRACT This article examines how technology and structural guidance influence the development of workgroups using computer-mediated communication (CMC). The results of two experiments support the notion that CMC workgroups develop over time in a similar manner to face-to-face groups. Technology availability had minimal, fleeting effects on group development. Structural guidance had a more pronounced effect, increasing feelings of belonging and goal commitment in newly formed groups, but lowering feelings of trust in maturing groups.

This paper details the case study of the model development at a company that offers software as a service (SaaS) to clients in the services industry. The growing market for SaaS provides the company tremendous opportunities to succeed as a startup. A new cloud-based system is aimed at facilitating the automation of cross-department collaboration by integrating companys Web applications to other service providers and Enterprise Resource Planning systems. However, as it is challenging to dynamically integrate multiple autonomous software systems, the company has identified Web services technologies as the foundation of the next generation software solutions. To create an extensible solution, Event-Driven Process Chain and Unified Modeling Language models are developed to model enterprise business processes and their departmental functions. The models are abstract views of complex enterprise systems. After the implementation of such models, the management team can further address issues related to the cost effectiveness, reliability and data security of software-supported business processes.
