First Record of Raoiella indica (Hirst, 1924) (Acari: Tenuipalpidae) in Guadeloupe and Saint Martin, West Indies

Jean Etienne; Carlos H.W. Flechtmann

The red palm mite, Raoiella indica Hirst (Prostigmata: Tenuipalpidae), described in 1924 from coconut leaves in India, spread to the Near East, Mauritius, Reunion and Russia and became an important pest. Details of its distribution are summarized in Mendonga et al. (2005) and Kane et al. (2005). It was recently reported from Martinique (Flechtmann and Etienne, 2004), St. Lucia, Dominica and Trinidad-Tobago (Kane et al., 2005), mainly on palms (Arecaceae) and bananas (Musaceae). Observations Surveys conducted by authors in Guadeloupe in May 2006 showed that R. indica was present in large populations on the lower surface of median leaves of coconut palms (Cocos nucifera L.) all along the coastal line and on the ornamental palms Caryota mitis Lour. L., Licuala grandis H. Wendl., Phoenix canariensis Hort. ex Chabaud, Pritchardia pacifica B.C. Seem. and H. Wendl, Ptychosperma macarthuri H. Wendl ex Hook, Veitchia merrillii (Becc.) H. E. Moore and Washingtonia robusta H. Wendl as well as on other ornamental plants: Heliconia rostrata R. and P. (Heliconiaceae), Strelitzia reginae Banks (Strelitziaceae), Alpinia purpurata Vieill. ex K. Schum. and Etlingera elatior (Jack.) R. M. Smith (Zingiberaceae) and bananas (Musa sp., Musaceae). The mites were easily noticed due to their large populations

Carlos H.W. Flechtmann; Jean Etienne

Abstract A spider mite, Tetranychus piercei McGregor, from French Guyana. A false spider mite, Dolichotetranychus vandergooti (Oudemans) and five new species of eriophyid mites from Guadeloupe, namely: Acalitus amydros, Acaphyllisa limitata, Nothopoda brevilinea, N. integra and Paraphytoptella secunda are reported and described from Guadaloupe.

Thrips (Insecta: Thysanoptera) of Guadeloupe and Martinique: Updated check-list with new information on their ecology and natural enemies

Jean Etienne; Philippe Ryckewaert; Bruno Michel

Abstract A list of 91 species of thrips from Guadeloupe and Martinique, including 28 new records, is provided. New data on the ecology of some species and additional records of parasitoids and predators of thrips are given. A list of plants is provided on which populations of thrips have been observed, in some cases, with the presence of immature stages and/or thrips feeding damage.

Plant mites from the French Antilles and French Guyana, with descriptions of two new species of eriophyid mites (Acari: Prostigmata: Tetranychidae, Tenuipalpidae, Eriophyidae)

Carlos H.W. Flechtmann; Jean Etienne

Abstract Some spider mites (Tetranychidae), false spider mites (Tenuipalpidae) and eriophyid mites (Eriophyidae) are reported from the French Antilles of Guadeloupe, Les Saintes, and French Guyana. Two new species of eriophyid mites, Acalitus granulatus and Paraphytoptus intersitus, are described. Aceria chrysophylli (Cook, 1906) is redescribed from Guadeloupe.

Zootaxa | 2015

Three new genera and three new species of Lasiopteridi (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) on Rubiaceae from Guadeloupe, French West Indies, and a key to genera of Neotropical Lasiopteridi unplaced to tribe.

Raymond J. Gagné; Jean Etienne

Three new genera of Lasiopteridi (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae), Faramitella Gagné, new genus, Anapeza Gagné, new genus, and Pellacara Gagné, new genus, each with one new species, are described. The new species are from leaf galls on Rubiaceae collected in Guadeloupe, F.W.I.: Faramitella planicauda Gagné, new species, was reared from Faramea occidentalis (L.) A. Rich.; Anapeza tumida Gagné, new species, and Pellacara postica, new species, were both reared from Psychotria mapourioides DC. The three new genera belong to Lasiopteridi but are unassigned to tribe. A key to the adult stage of these and 23 other Neotropical genera of unplaced Lasiopteridi whose adults are known is provided.
