(S)-(+)-2-Methoxymethylpyrrolidine induces high diastereoselectivities (80% diastereoisomeric excess) in the reaction of α-aminonitriles with Grignard reagents.

The diamine (S)-(3), obtained by treatment of (S)-1,1′-binaphthyl-2,2′-dicarboxylic acid chloride with N,N′-dimethylethylene-1,2-diamine, is evaluated as a chiral catalyst for addition of n-butyl-lithium to benzaldehyde, but leads to racemic 1-phenylpentan-1-ol, which is interpreted as a failure to complex the BunLi.

Sodium diphenylketyl reacts with 1-methylheptyl bromide and mesylate with partial inversion of configuration; these results agree with a mechanism involving SN2 and electron transfer reactions in competition.
Journal of The Chemical Society, Chemical Communications | 1972
Jean-Paul Mazaleyrat; Zoltan Welvart
Alkylation of lithium dihydroanthracenylide by (–)R-6-chloro-2,6-dimethyloctane occurs with racemization and only a small degree of inversion of configuration, in agreement with the main pathway involving the previously proposed radical–radical anion combination.
