A continuum of new monopole and dyon solutions in the Einstein-Yang-Mills theory in asymptotically anti-de Sitter space are found. They are regular everywhere and specified by their mass and their non-Abelian electric and magnetic charges. A class of monopole solutions which have no node in non-Abelian magnetic fields is shown to be stable against spherically symmetric linear perturbations.

The initial distribution of gluons at the very early times after a high-energy heavy ion collision is described by the bulk scale Q{sub s} of gluon saturation in the nuclear wave function. The subsequent evolution of the system towards kinetic equilibrium is described by a nonlinear Landau equation for the single particle distributions [A. H. Mueller, Nucl. Phys. B572, 227 (2000); Phys. Lett. B 475, 220 (2000)]. In this paper, we solve this equation numerically for the idealized initial conditions proposed by Mueller, and study the evolution of the system to equilibrium. We discuss the sensitivity of our results on the dynamical screening of collinear divergences. In a particular model of dynamical screening, the convergence to the hydrodynamic limit is seen to be rapid relative to hydrodynamic time scales. The equilibration time, the initial temperature, and the chemical potential are shown to have a strong functional dependence on the initial gluon saturation scale Q{sub s}.

Abstract The design, construction, and performance of a segmented-target, cathode-strip, tracking-detector is discussed. The chamber was made of low- Z materials in order to allow photons to leave the target region. It was used to determine the reaction vertex of stopping kaons, and was successfully operated in a high-intensity kaon beamline at the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The vertical and horizontal resolutions of the stopping kaon reaction positions were σ X ∼0.454 mm and σ Y ∼1.180 mm , respectively. The uncertainty in the longitudinal ( Z ) direction is given by one-half the thickness of a target segment.

A non-linear Boltzmann equation describing the time evolution of a partonic system in the central rapidity region after a heavy ion collision is solved numerically. A particular model of the collinear logarithmic divergences due to small angle scattering is employed in the numerical solution. The system is followed until it reaches kinetic equilibrium where the equilibration time, temperature and chemical potential are determined for both RHIC and LHC.

Regular monopole and dyon solutions to the SU(2) Einstein Yang-Mills equations in asymptotically anti-de Sitter space are discussed. A class of monopole solutions are shown to be stable against spherically symmetric linear perturbations.
