Jung-Hyun Kim; Dong-Gyu Kim; Jeong-Hoon Shin; Sang-Won Lee; Kwang-Seok Hong

In this paper, we implement hand gesture recognition system using union of fuzzy algorithm and Relational Database Management System (hereafter, RDBMS) module for Post PC (the embedded-ubiquitous environment using blue-tooth module, embedded i.MX21 board and note-book computer for smart gate). The learning and recognition model due to the RDBMS is used with input variable of fuzzy algorithm (fuzzy max-min composition), and recognize users dynamic gesture through efficient and rational fuzzy reasoning process. The proposed gesture recognition interface consists of three modules: 1) gesture input module that processes motion of dynamic hand to input data, 2) RDBMS module to segment significant gestures from inputted data, and 3) fuzzy max-min recognition module to recognize significant gesture of continuous, dynamic gestures and extensity of recognition. Experimental result shows the average recognition rate of 98.2% for significant dynamic gestures.

Implementation and performance evaluation of glove-based HCI methods: gesture recognition systems using fuzzy algorithm and neural network for the wearable PC

Jeong-Hoon Shin; Jung-Hyun Kim; Kwang-Seok Hong

Ubiquitous computing is a new era in the evolution of computers. After the mainframe and PC (personal computers) phases, the phase of ubiquitous computing device begins. In this paper, we implement and evaluate glove-based HCI (Human Computer Interaction) methods using fuzzy algorithm and neural network for post PC in the ubiquitous computing. Using glove, we implement hand gesture recognition systems for the wearable PC. One system uses combination of fuzzy algorithm and RDBMS (Relational Database Management System) module, the other system uses neural network. Both systems are implemented on the platform of minimized wearable computer (based on i.MX21). After implementation, we conduct some performance evaluation in the mobile condition. And then we discuss strength and weakness of each method. Finally, we suggest possible improvements methods for HCI based on the wearable computers in the mobile condition.

Implementation of New CTI Service Platform Using Voice XML

Jeong-Hoon Shin; Kwang-Seok Hong; Sung-Kyun Eom

In this paper, we describe implementation of new CTI (Computer Telephony Integration) service platform with ASP (Application Service Provider) concepts and its applications. We developed new middleware and media processing tool, speech enable functions including signaling. And we also developed Voice XML interpreter. Our system emerged from traditional standard IVR platform. But, the concepts of the platform are quite different. Using this new CTI service platform, we divided service creation part from legacy telephony interface part. This approach gives us some advantages. First of all, web users can edit their service scenario. And, web user can handle service scenario more efficiently and flexibly. Finally, we proved the stability of application and its platform using results of service on commercial business using new platform. And we analyze strong point and weak point of new CTI service platform.

An improved HCI method and information input device using gloves for wearable computers

Jeong-Hoon Shin; Kwang-Seok Hong

Input to small device is become an increasingly crucial factor in development for the ever-more powerful wearable computers. In this paper, we propose glove-based human-computer interaction method and information input device for wearable computers. We suggest an easy and effective alphanumeric input algorithm using gloves and conduct efficiency test. The key factor for the proposed algorithm and device is the use of unique operator-to-key mapping method, key-to-symbol mapping method. The strong points of the proposed algorithm and device is using simple and easy algorithm. As a result, users can easily learn how to use. We list and discuss traditional algorithm and method using a glove, then describe an improved newly proposed algorithm using gloves. We conducted efficiency test with 20 subjects and compared the results with 12 similar systems. We set 11 key factors as performance evaluation parameters, and then compared performance of each system using these 11 key factors.

Jung-Hyun Kim; Yong-Wan Roh; Jeong-Hoon Shin; Kwang-Seok Hong

In this paper, we implement hand gesture recognition system using fuzzy algorithm and neural network for Post PC (the embedded-ubiquitous environment using blue-tooth module, embedded i.MX21 board and smart gate-notebook computer). Also, we propose most efficient and reasonable hand gesture recognition interface for Post PC through evaluation and analysis of performance about each gesture recognition system. The proposed gesture recognition system consists of three modules: 1) gesture input module that processes motion of dynamic hand to input data, 2) Relational Database Management System (hereafter, RDBMS) module to segment significant gestures from input data and 3) 2 each different recognition module: fuzzy max-min and neural network function recognition module to recognize significant gesture of continuous / dynamic gestures. Experimental result shows the average recognition rate of 98.8% in fuzzy max-min module and 96.7% in neural network recognition module about significantly dynamic gestures.

An Implementation of Interactive Voice Recognition Stock Trading System Using VoiceXML

Chang-Su Cho; Jeong-Hoon Shin; Kwang-Seok Hong

In this paper, we implemented practical application service using VoiceXML. Developers can utilize the advantages of using VoiceXML such as reducing development time and sharing contents between applications. Up to now, speech related services were developed using APIs and programming languages such as C/C++ or exclusive developing tools, which methods depend on system architectures. For this reasons, reuse of contents and resources was very difficult. If developers want to change scenarios of the application services or change platforms, they have to edit and recompile their program sources. To solve these problems, nowadays, companies develop their applications using VoiceXML. But, there`s poor grip of actual problems can be occurred when they use VoiceXML. To overcome these problems, we implemented stock trading system using VoiceXML. We found out problems which occurred during developing services. We proposed solutions to these problems And, we analyzed strong points and weak points of applications using suggested system.
