For hypersonic aircraft, increase of flight speeds causes heat loads that are from aerodynamic heat and engine heat. The heat loads could lead structural change of aircrafts component and malfunctioning. Endothermic fuels are liquid hydrocarbon fuels which are able to absorb the heat loads by undergoing endothermic reactions, such as thermal and catalytic cracking. In this study, methylcyclohexane was selected as a model endothermic fuel and experiments on endothermic properties were implemented. To improve heat of endothermic reaction, we applied zeolites and confirmed that HZSM-5 was the best catalyst for the catalytic performance. The objective is to investigate catalyti c effects for heat sink improvement. The catalyst could be applied to system that use kerosene fuel as endothermic fuel.

Tetrahydrotricyclopentadiene(below THTCPD) isomer is a good candidate materials for the high performance liquid fuel component because of its high density and heat of combustion value. The object of this study was to find out the proper reaction condition to improve the fluidity of THTCPD which is solid state at room temperature. Therefore, we have carried out isomerization reactions using aluminum chloride in the varying reaction condition such as reaction temperature and solvents. The results showed that when using aluminum chloride catalyst, THTCPD isomerization reaction was more active in the polar halogenated reaction media such as dichloromethane(methylene chloride: MC), 1,2-dichloroethane(ethylene chloride: EC) and chloroform than in non-polar hydrocarbon media such as n-Hexnae and toluene and was effected by reaction temperature variation.

Tricyclopentadiene (TCPD) as a next generation high density fuel was synthesized by Diels-Alder oligomerization reaction of DCPD. TCPD was prepared by ionic liquid (IL) catalysts with combination of cationic and anionic precursors. Two kinds of anionic precursors such as copper(I) chloride (CuCl) and iron(III) chloride () and cationic precursors such as triethylamine hydrochloride (TEAC) and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (BMIC) were used. The preparation of TCPD using IL catalyst was superior to that using Diels-Alder reaction in terms of DCPD conversion and TCPD yield. In addition, TCPD yield was correlated with Lewis acidity by changing the ratio of anionic and cationic precursors. The TCPD yield was higher when using CuCl as anionic precursor than that of using . Control of Lewis acidity by changing the molar ratio of anionic and cationic precursors could further improve TCPD yield as well.

A kinetic model is developed to predict the entire distribution of hydrocarbon products for the hydrocracking reaction with Pt/Y-zeolite catalysts in a trickle-bed reactor. Operating conditions, such as temperature, pressure, and wax and H2 flow rates were varied to evaluate their effects on conversion and distribution, and kinetic parameters were estimated using the experimental data that covers the window of operating conditions. The comparison between experimental data and simulated results corroborated the validity of the developed model, and the quantitative prediction of the reactor performance was clearly demonstrated. To make evident the usefulness of the model, an optimization method, genetic algorithm (GA), was applied, and the optimal condition for the maximum production of C10-C17 was successfully calculated.
