High resolution supply chain management: optimized processes based on self-optimizing control loops and real time data

The efficient dealing with the dynamic environment of production industries is one of the most challenging tasks of Supply Chain Management in high-wage countries. Relevant and current information are still not used sufficiently, to handle the influence of the dynamic environment on intra- and inter-company order processing adequately. Among other things, the problem is caused by missing or delayed feedback of relevant data. As a consequence of that, planning results differ from the actual situation of production. High Resolution Supply Chain Management describes an approach aiming on high information transparency in supply chains in combination with decentralized, self-optimizing control loops for Production Planning and Control. The final objective is to enable manufacturing companies to produce efficiently and to be able to react to order-variations at any time, requiring process structures to be most flexible.

Assessment of the scale-scope dilemma in production systems: an integrative approach

Companies in high wage countries are increasingly confronted with the challenge of optimizing economies of scope and economies of scale simultaneously to succeed on a global market place. An integrated assessment of production systems facing this challenge is essential to evaluate the actual state of a company and to provide a basis for drawing the right conclusions to reconfigure production systems successfully. In this paper an integrated model for measuring economies of scope as well as economies of scale is introduced, defining the fundamental domains of a production system. The major objectives resulting from the overall scale-scope dilemma are broken down for each domain and the main dimensions for an assessment of each domain are defined. A new measure named Degree of Efficiency is defined, quantifying the fulfillment of the opposing objectives in each domain and hence, the contribution to an overall resolution of the scale-scope dilemma.

Coping with Supply Chain Dynamics – Review and Synthesis of Existing Contributions

Companies suffer the effects of supply chain dynamics more than ever. Highly dynamical consumer demand often leads to forecasting errors causing inability to supply. One of the most documented symptoms is the “Bullwhip Effect”. Consequently, concepts for collaborative planning are needed, considering a decision making process aligning plans of individual supply chain members. Academic literature comprises many investigations dealing with such approaches. In this paper we examine a range of methodological contributions coping with the dynamics of supply chains and increasing forecast reliability of the supply chain members. We point out counteractive measures and requirements to cope with increasing dynamics.

Konfiguration logistischer Netzwerk

Den heutigen Markt- und Kundenanforderungen an Lieferbereitschaft und Individualitat der Produkte wird zunehmend mit einer verstarkten Zusammenarbeit und Vernetzung der Wertschopfungsprozesse intern wie auch zwischen Unternehmen begegnet. Die Verflechtung von Warenstromen der an den Planungs- und Bewirtschaftungsprozessen logistischer Systeme beteiligten Partner erfordert dabei eine standige Weiterentwicklung der logistischen Prozesse [1]. Produktions- und Kommunikationsprozesse mussen zwischen einer Vielzahl von Netzwerkpartnern wie auch innerbetrieblichen Funktionen koordiniert und kundenorientiert miteinander verbunden werden. Eine effiziente Abwicklung logistischer Prozesse in Netzwerken ist somit heute ein Schlusselfaktor fur den Erfolg der kollektiven Leistungserstellung [2]. Die umfassende Beschreibung, Analyse und Gestaltung der logistischen Systeme bildet dafur die Grundlage [3]. Diese Aufgabe des Netzwerkmanagements, das im Kontext des Logistikmanagement auch als Supply-Chain-Management (SCM) bezeichnet wird, beschreibt die Art und Auslegung der Struktur des Logistiknetzwerks, in welches das Unternehmen eingebettet ist [4, 5]. Diese wird als Netzwerkkonfiguration bezeichnet. Das unternehmenseigene Netzwerk muss erfasst, abgegrenzt und die Beziehungen zu den Netzen der Lieferanten, Kunden und Logistikdienstleister im Hinblick auf Leistungspotenziale und Kostenstrukturen bewertet und gestaltet werden. Ziel dieses Kapitels ist es, diese Handlungsfelder der Konfiguration logistischer Netzwerke zu erlautern und zu verdeutlichen, wie und nach welchen Zielen und Prinzipien ein logistisches Netzwerk aufgebaut und bewertet werden kann. Anhand einer Typologisierung beobachtbarer Netzwerkformen werden die dargestellten Grundlagen in den praktischen Zusammenhang gesetzt.

Sustainable Cooperation in Networks Evaluating the Sustainable Implementation of Logistic Concepts in Networks

Since the millennium the business conditions for companies changed significantly. Rising energy cost and various legal regulations concerning environmental aspects like CO2-emissions foster the need of an ecological-economical integration in entrepreneurial decisions. In addition, companies have to handle a high variety of parts, distribution channels and variants. These circumstances require the establishment of a network between the partners in the supply chain. Because of the specific current economic situation companies finally have to face a tight liquidity situation.

Supply Chain Management leicht gemacht

Kurzfassung Auf Grund veränderter Marktanforderungen wird das unternehmensinterne Kostensenkungsdenken durch das Ziel ergänzt, logistische Leistungskenngrößen über alle Wertschöpfungsstufen hinweg zu optimieren. Das Supply Chain Management (SCM) liefert eine Vielzahl von Konzepten, um diesen ganzheitlichen Ansatz in die Praxis zu überführen. Die Konzepte werden jedoch mangels einer geeigneten Strukturierung und einem damit verbundenen komplexen Auswahlprozess nur zögerlich in die Praxis umgesetzt. Dieser Artikel stellt einen Ansatz vor, mit dessen Hilfe die Vielzahl der Konzepte strukturiert und typologisiert werden kann. Die Konzepte werden zunächst an Hand einer Morphologie inhaltlich charakterisiert. Anschließend werden mittels einer Clusteranalyse Typologien der Konzepte abgeleitet. Mit Hilfe dieser Zusammenfassung der Konzepte zu Gruppen kann letztendlich die Anzahl der Alternativen, zwischen denen Unternehmen vor einer potenziellen Implementierung abwägen müssen, verringert werden.
