Joint 3-D Inversion of Gravity, Magnetic and Tensor Gravity Fields For Imaging Salt Formations in the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico

A very robust inversion process was developed to produce geologic models based on vector and tensor potential methods data. We have successfully jointly modeled gravity and magnetic fields over areas as large as several thousand square miles down to prospect areas in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. In some cases tensor gravity was also included in the joint inversions. In order to accomplish this we have had to overcome many of the pitfalls associated with this type of modeling. The resulting software runs very efficiently on desktop computers such as a Sun Ultra-60.
