Abstract The variations of concentration profiles at the working electrode as a consequence of Ficks law and the electroneutrality maintaining rule as considered. The conclusion is drawn that the cause of reversed or twofold interference fringe shifts may be, among others, the effect of the superposition of the concentration gradients of particular species. The calculations are illustrated by original interferograms.

Abstract With the help of oscillopolarographic methods, the formation of additional adsorption-desorption peaks or incisions in the curves i =f( E ) and d E /d t =f( E ) was observed for saturated solutions of higher fatty acids in 1 M H 2 SO 4 . In virtue of the analysis of the first and second polarization cycle, it was found, that, a previous electrode polarization to the adsorption potentials was necessary, if the additional peaks were to be formed. A supposition was made, that the additional peaks originate in the desorption and adsorption of the dimerized molecules of the acids.

Abstract It has been observed, that on the d.c. polarograms of nitrate, even at the very small concentration of CrO 4 2− (of the order 10 −7 mol dm −3 ) a maximum appears at the potential −1.7 V. The maximum is of catalytic nature and may be used for analytical purposes.

In the presence of traces of Cr(VI) or Cr(III) ions in ammonia or borate buffers containing the As(III) ions a catalytic hydrogen wave arises in the dc polarogram. It was established that the complex Cr(H2AsO3)n+3−n is formed in the solution, and that its reduced form adsorbed at DME is of catalytic activity. The wave can be employed for the determination of low concentrations (2×10−8×10−7 M) of Cr(VI) and Cr(III) ions.
