Gas chromatographic–mass spectrometric method for the simultaneous determination of amitraz, bromopropylate, coumaphos, cymiazole and fluvalinate residues in honey

A rapid method for determining acaricide residues in honey is proposed. After dissolving honey samples in water, acaricides are subjected to solid-phase extraction with a Sep-Pak C18 cartridge and directly determined by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. The quantification limit obtained for different acaricides ranged from 10 to 40 µg kg–1 and recoveries from spiked honey samples averaged 85% and ranged from 74 to 96%.

Simplified method for the determination of organochlorine pesticides in honey

A method is described for the detection and quantitative determination of organochlorine pesticides in honey. After extraction with hexane, the pesticides were cleaned-up by adsorption chromatography on a Florisil Sep-Pak cartridge and eluted with 15% diethyl ether in hexane. The detection of organochlorine pesticides was performed by capillary gas chromatography with electron-capture detection. The quantification limit obtained for different pesticides ranged from 0.56 to 2.78 µg kg–1 and recoveries from fortified honey samples averaged 89.6%.

Mass spectrometric determination of pentachlorophenol in honey

Abstract A rapid method is proposed for determining pentachlorophenol in honey. After dissolving a sample in acidified water, pentachlorophenol is extracted onto a Sep-Pak C 18 cartridge and directly determined by gas chromatography- mass spectrometry after elution. The detection limit is 7.6 μg kg −1 and recoveries from spiked samples averaged 93% and ranged from 84% to 101%.

Comparison of two extraction methods for determination of PCBs and PCTs in mussels from Galicia

We compared two extraction methods for use in GC-ECD determination of polychlorinated bi- and terphenyl contaminants (PCBs and PCTs respectively) in mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis). Mussels spiked with standard PCB and PCT mixtures Aroclor 1260 and Aroclor 5460 were extracted with cold acetonitrile, or with 1:1 n-hexane/ dichloromethane in a Soxhlet extractor, which gave the better mean recoveries of 99.0 +/- 2.5% and 59.5 +/- 8.3% for PCBs and PCTs respectively.
