Two novel compounds have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by IR spectra and single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. Crystal structure analyses reveal that and exhibit novel 2-D framework structures constructed from tungsten polyoxoanions, metal ions and 4,4-byp units, respectively.

The hydrothermal reactions of CuX2 or CuX with phen (1,10-phenanthroline) have resulted in the syntheses of eight compounds 1–8. In these, 1∶1 adducts of CuX/phen are reported: ionic [Cu(phen)2][CuX2] (X=Cl 1, Br 2) and dimer [Cu2I2(phen)] 3; the trinuclear clusters [Cu3X3(phen)2] (X=Br 5, I 7) were first prepared and the structures can be best described as 1∶1 adducts of dimers and CuX; the chain compounds 6 and 8 belong to the same series with the formula [CuX2L] (L=organic ligand), but the chain arrangement is different; the structure of 4 is yet being refined. Compounds 1–8 have a high thermal stability. The third-order nonlinear optical properties of compounds 5, 6 and 8 were investigated and all exhibit a reverse saturable absorption (α2>0) and self-defocusing performance (n2<0).

Abstract Two novel low-dimensional framework materials, [ Ni ( en ) 2 ] 2 [ Ni ( en ) 2 Mo VI 6 V VI 10 O 40 ( V IV O 4 )]·4 H 2 O (1) and [ en ] 0.5 [ Cu ( en ) 2 ] 2 [ Cu ( en ) 2 Mo VI 6 Mo V 2 V IV 8 O 40 ( Mo IV O 4 )]·0.5 H 2 O (2), assembled hydrothermally, are constructed from the mixed Mo/V tetra-capped Keggin structure clusters linked through M(en)2(M=Ni,Cu) groups.

Abstract A novel compound, [Cu(en)2(H2O)]4[Cu(en)2]3.5[PMoVI8VIV6O42Cu(en)(1,10′-phen)]3·14H2O 1 (en = ethylenediamine, phen = phenanthroline), was synthesized hydrothermally (170 °C, 10 days, autogeneous pressure) and characterized by IR, ESR, elemental analyses and X-ray crystallography. The results of structure determination show that compound 1 contains three different structure cluster anions [PMoVI8VIV6O42]7− supporting complex cation [Cu(en)(1,10′-phen)]2+, in which one cluster anion possesses typical bicapped Keggin structure, while other two polyanions only have bicapped quasi-Keggin structures, and [Cu(en)(1,10′-phen)]2+ is linked through oxygen atoms to different V positions of two bicapped quasi-Keggin units.

A single layer of dense Si quantum dots with average size of 4 nm sandwiched in amorphous SiN layers was prepared by laser crystallization of ultrathin amorphous Si film followed by subsequently thermal annealing. The electroluminescent diodes were fabricated by evaporating Al electrodes on back sides of p-Si substrates and the top surface of samples. Room temperature electroluminescence can be detected with applying the negative voltage around 10V on the top gate electrode and the luminescent intensity is increased with increasing the applied voltage. It was found that the integrated luminescent intensity is linearly proportional to the injection current which suggested the intensity depends on the concentrations of injected carriers after Fowler-Nordheim tunneling through amorphous SiN barriers. The influence of the amorphous SiN with different band gap on the device performance was also discussed briefly.

Abstract The title compound [CuBr(IN)]n 1 was hydrothermally synthesized from a simple reaction of CuBr2–IN–KBr–NaOH–H2O. X-ray analysis revealed that it is a new example containing extended one-dimensional staircase chain in copper(I) halide family. Its structure can be better described as a three-dimensional supramolecular network assembled via a combination of coordinate–covalent bonds and intermolecular hydrogen bonds. Moreover, compound 1 was characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectrum and TGA analysis.

In acidic alcohol/aqueous solution, simple solvo(hydro)thermal self-assembly between Pb(II) salts, KI and pip/dabco (pip = piperazine; dabco = 1,4-diazabicyclo[2,2,2]octane) created three new organically templated iodoplumbates as the chained [H2dppip][Pb2I6]·H2O 1 and [H2depip][Pb2I6]·H2O 2 and the layered [H2dabco][Pb3I8] 3 (dppip = N,N′-dipropylpiperazine; depip = N,N′-diethylpiperazine). Note that dppip/depip were derived respectively from the solvothermal in situ N-alkylation reactions of pip with ethanol/propanol in acidic KI solution. Ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectrum analysis indicates that the three compounds are all potential semiconductor materials with energy gaps of 3.46 eV for 1, 3.02 eV for 2 and 3.31 eV for 3.

In this letter, we report the antireflection and light absorption enhancement by forming sub-wavelength nano-patterned Si structures via nano-sphere lithography technique. It is found that the surface reflection can be significantly suppressed in a wide spectral range (400-1000 nm) and the weighted mean reflection is less than 5%. Meanwhile, the broad band optical absorption enhancement is achieved consequently. Heterojunction solar cells are prepared by depositing ultrathin amorphous Si film on the nano-patterned Si structures, the short circuit current density increases to 37.2 mA/cm(2)and the power conversion efficiency is obviously improved compared to the reference cell on flat Si substrate.

Five novel heteropolyanions have been synthesized and characterized by IR, UV-vis, XPS spectroscopy, XRD, and elemental analyses. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses reveal that these five compounds represent novel examples of compounds based on the combination of polyoxometalates, transition metal coordination complexes and organic amines. Of which 1, 2 and 3 exhibit 0D structures of polyoxometalate supported transition metal coordination complexes, while 4 and 5 exhibit novel 1D structures constructed from polyoxometalates and transition metal coordination complexes.
