G-quadruplex as a new class of structural entities for directing the formation of circular oligodeoxyribonucleotides

Jian Chen; Dongsheng Liu; Alex H. F. Lee; Jianying Qi; Albert S. C. Chan; Tianhu Li

It has been demonstrated for the first time that G-quadruplex is capable of acting as a template for directing the sequence-specific formation of certain circular oligodeoxyribonucleotides with high efficiency.

Tris[N‐(4‐fluorophenyl)pyridine‐2‐carboxamidato‐κ2N,N′]cobalt(III) trihydrate: a novel meridional complex

Jianying Qi; Qi-Yun Yang; Shusun Chan; Zhong-Yuan Zhou; Albert S. C. Chan

The title complex, [Co(C(12)H(8)FN(2)O)(3)].3H(2)O, has been synthesized for the first time. The complex comprises three bidentate ligands containing the pyridine-2-carboxamide stem. The distorted octahedral coordination around the Co atom is formed via the pyridine (py) N atom and the deprotonated amide N atom of each ligand, with the three pyridine rings in a meridional arrangement. For each ligand, the pyridine ring and the carbonyl group are nearly coplanar, with torsion angles in the range 0.4 (3)-4.8 (4) degrees. The Co-N(py) distances [1.9258 (16)-1.9656 (17) A] are shorter than the corresponding Co-N(amide) distances [1.9372 (17)-1.9873 (15) A]. In addition, the Co-N(py) distances are closely related to the magnitudes of the chelate angles, a shorter Co-N(py) distance corresponding to a larger angle. Five intermolecular hydrogen bonds, involving carbonyl O atoms of the ligands and lattice water molecules, lead to the formation of a mesh structure.

Fungicide chinomethionate as a new family of photoinducible DNA-cleaving agents

Jianying Qi; Tianhu Li; Albert S. C. Chan

It is demonstrated for the first time in this report that chinomethionate is capable of causing efficient DNA cleavage under mild irradiation conditions, a fungicide molecule that processes the simple group of 1,3-dithio-2-one as its reactive functionality.

(R)‐N‐(1‐Phenylethyl)quinoline‐2‐carboxamide

Qi-Yun Yang; Zhong-Yuan Zhou; Jianying Qi

The quinolyl and phenyl rings in the title compound, C18H16N2O, form a dihedral angle of 89.07 (5)°. The amide group is rotated out of the quinoline ring plane, with a dihedral angle of 21.19 (1)°.

4′-Fluoro-2′-nitroacetanilide

Jianying Qi; Zhong-Yuan Zhou; Dongsheng Liu; Albert S. C. Chan

The crystal structure of the title compound, C8H7FN2O3, shows that the amide and nitro groups are rotated slightly out of the aromatic plane, with dihedral angles of 16.30 (6) and 29.60 (10)°, respectively. The overall molecular organization is stabilized by well defined intermolecular hydrogen bonds that lead to the formation of infinite chains.
