This letter proposes a new pulse position modulation (PPM) combined with coding scheme for wireless body area network (WBAN) system. By utilizing redundant time slots in grouped PPM symbols, we incorporate a low-complexity block code to achieve coding gain without bit-rate reduction. Simulations and FPGA elaboration verify the proposed joint modulation and coding scheme.

Energy usage optimization in homes is an important issue because over 30% of the energy consumption of the world occurs in the residential sector. One of key points for home energy management is energy monitoring and control through low-power and low-cost wireless communication. The block-coded group PPM (BC-GPPM) is a scheme with low complexity typically proportional to power and cost because the BC-GPPM can support coding gain through modulation. This paper proposes a design method of BC-GPPM modem. From implementation results, the BC-GPPM achieves the improved complexity by about 6 times and the enhanced power efficiency by about 17 times.

As growing up wireless network based Internet over Thing (IoT) platforms and services, security has been very important issue at wireless data transfer area. This paper introduce security implementation cases and technologies at PhotoVoltaic (PV) monitoring system which is based on the IEEE 802.15.4g Smart Utility Network (SUN). Because PV monitoring system consist of embedded devices which has insufficient resources, we consider light weight data encryption and decryption algorithms at wireless area supporting low data rates. We implements hardware based Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and software based Academic Research Institute and Agency (ARIA) algorithms with dynamic cipher key management. In the near future, we are going to gather and analysis the performance of the cipher algorithms at the PV monitoring system.

In this paper, we propose signal-modeling of the block-coded group pulse position modulation (BC-GPPM) for the wireless body area network (WBAN). The BC-GPPM is one of modulation methods for the WBAN application taking the technical requirements such as data-rate scalability, low complexity and low-power. This paper describes concept of WBAN non-coherent standard related to BC-GPPM and proposes a BC-GPPM signal-modeling derived from the conventional pulse position modulation (PPM).

Photovoltaic (PV) is an attractive renewable energy source and the global cumulative PV capacity is growing steadily. Implementation of a cost-effective wireless PV monitoring system at panel level is required in order to apply it commercially to the massive number of PV panels and to enhance convenience of maintenance of PV systems. This paper proposes an implementation method for cost-effective wireless PV monitoring module (WPMM), and describes demonstration results on the practical PV system.

A Photovoltaic (PV) system needs to monitor individual PV panels to maintain the performance. In a high-dense large-scale PV system, two characteristics can limit the use of communication technology. First, high density can degrade wireless communication performance due to the interference between densely deployed nodes. Second, a large-scale area can limit the communication distance in power line communication (PLC) due to cable loss. This paper proposes a hybrid network using PLC in a local group of PV panels and SUN in a long distance link. A pilot field test shows the feasibility of the proposed hybrid network.
