Kui Yang; Jinbang Wang; Lu Zhao; Zhiguo Liu; Tao Zhang

A slab focusing lens in this work has been designed, which consists of electromagnetic-induction materials (cage-shaped granules of conductor materials) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) materials. A compound lens with a thickness of 32 mm is composed of two slab focusing lenses, and has a refractive index of 1.41 at 35 GHz. Millimeter-wave (MMW) images of metallic objects have been obtained with the compound lens. The image quality has been compared by means of the compound lens and the polyethylene lens. The experimental results show good feasibility of the compound lens in MMW imaging.

A geometrical description of square polycapillary x-ray optics and the basic theory of the transmission of x-rays are presented. A method of numerical calculation is developed based on ray-tracing theory. The method simulates the intensity distribution of x-rays propagating through slice square polycapillary x-ray optics. The simulation results are compared with the experimental results.

Millimeter wave imaging with electromagnetic-induction materials focusing lenses

Kui Yang; Jinbang Wang; Lu Zhao; Zhiguo Liu; Tao Zhang

The focusing device comprising two element focusing lenses made of electromagnetic-induction materials has been used in the active millimeter-wave (AMMW) imaging system. The electromagnetic-induction materials exhibit a refractive index of 1.502 at 35 GHz. The AMMW imaging system presented in this paper consists of an illumination source, a focusing device, a one dimensional receiver and a signal processing system. The MMW images of the metal strips and the concealed metal strips have been obtained. The experimental results show that the AMMM imaging system can detect the metal strips with and without the woolen cloth.

To study the transmission property of the square polycapillary x-ray lens and verify its feasibility using in the x-ray pulsar navigation a geometrical description of it and the basic theory of the transmission of x-rays are presented. A method of numerical calculation is developed based on ray-tracing theory. The method simulates the intensity distribution and calculates the transmission efficiency of x-rays propagating through a square polycapillary lens. The transmission rule of the x-ray propagation in the x-ray lens can be got, after tracing a large number of x-ray beams. A program based on ray-tracing method was designed to simulate the transmission efficiency of an x-ray lens and the light spot gained from it. The transmission property of the square polycapillary x-ray lens is studied based on this program. And the study shows that the transmission property of the square polycapillary x-ray lens is good, and it has the potential of being used in the area of x-ray pulsar navigation.

Research on millimeter wave focal plane imaging of compound lens

Jinbang Wang; Kui Yang; Lu Zhao; Zhiguo Liu; Tao Zhang

Novel compound lens based on the new material of CGC (cage-shaped granule of conductor) was applied to the millimeter wave focal plane imaging. Millimeter wave imaging test circuit and the signal receiving system were designed and constructed. Active millimeter wave focal plane imaging was built, and the sharp image which proved that compound lens was feasible for millimeter wave focal plane imaging was obtained.

Millimeter wave imaging of hidden targets with compound dielectric lens in slab shape

Lu Zhao; Kui Yang; Jinbang Wang; Tao Zhang; Zhiguo Liu

A complex dielectric lens in slab shape which is made of electromagnetic-induction materials (cage-shaped granules of conductor materials) and polymethyl methacrylate materials is proposed. Active millimeter wave imaging on focal plane with compound lens which consists of two complex dielectric lenses is investigated. The imaging system is introduced. The parameters of the millimeter wave source, the compound lens and the scanning imaging system are given. Millimeter wave imaging of a metal target covered by different materials is conducted. The quality of the images is acceptable, which suggests that the imaging system is feasible in detecting hidden metal targets.
