Casein possesses many interesting properties that make it a good candidate for conventional and novel drug delivery systems. In this study, casein-based silica nano-composite was prepared via double in situ method, and the as-prepared latex particles were evaluated in terms of their morphology and size through transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The film morphology was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), and the mechanical property and response behavior of the films as a function of silica content were discussed. Ibuprofen was used as the model drug. The drug load and release properties were studied by solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (solid-state NMR), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), SEM and in vitro test. The composite latex particle showed a stable core-shell structure, and the film exhibited a regular surface with even SiO2 distribution. The drug load efficiency of the composite films increased with adding silica because of the adsorption of the drugs on the silica. In an acidic release medium, the ibuprofen-loaded composite showed a slower drug release dependent on the silica content. These behaviors were most likely due to the reduced diffusion rate of the drug through the composite microsphere, which resulted from the interaction between the silica and the drug.

Adsorptive removal of vinyl polymer tanning agents from aqueous solution using wastewater activated sludge

Xia Zhao; Jianzhong Ma; Hongrui Ma; Dangge Gao; Xiangfei Lv; Jing Zhang

AbstractAdsorptive studies were carried out on four synthetic vinyl polymer tanning agents removal from aqueous phase onto wastewater activated sludge (AS). Batch experiments investigated the effects of contact time, dosage of adsorbate, extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), coexisted cations, and physical property of sludge flocs on the four vinyl polymers removal by AS to evaluate the kinetics, isotherms, and mechanisms. Almost 96% of polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride-acrylic-acrylamide (PDM-AA-AM), 90% of polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride-acrylic (PDM-AA), 82% of polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride-acrylic-acrylamide-hydroxyethyl acrylate (PDM-AA-AM-HEA), and 56% of polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride (PDM) were removed from aqueous solutions. The kinetics process of adsorption can be described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation and the adsorption isotherms fitted to the Langmuir model very well. The adsorption capacity increases with the increase in initial vinyl polymers concentr...

Synthesis and properties of modified rapeseed oil/montmorillonite nanocomposite fatliquoring agent

Bin Lu; Jianzhong Ma; Dangge Gao; Lei Hong; Jing Zhang; Qunna Xu

Modified rapeseed oil/montmorillonite (MRO/MMT) nanocomposite was prepared by using rapeseed oil, ethylene diamine, acrylic acid, and MMT. In order to compare MRO/MMT with MRO and a market product XQ-F3, they were applied in leather fatliquoring process, respectively. Sensory evaluation, physical and mechanical properties, and flame-retardant property of leather treated with different fatliquoring agents were measured. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results showed that MRO could smoothly enter the interlayer of MMT. The emulsifying property of MRO/MMT was confirmed better than that of MRO. The application results also showed that MRO/MMT has good fatliquoring effect. Meanwhile, it can increase leather strength and improve leather flame-retardant performance.

Characterization and Properties of Organic Silicon Modified Vegetable Oil Fatliquor

Bin Lu; Jian Zhong Ma; Dang Ge Gao; Jing Zhang

The vegetable oil fatliquor (VF) was prepared by rapeseed oil, 1, 2-ethylenediamine and acrylic acid. The synthesis of a silicon modified vegetable oil fatliquor (SVF) was carried out using VF and polyether silicon by stirring and ultrasonic treatment. VF and SVF were measured by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetry(TGA) and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) respectively. SVF was applied in leather fatliquoring process, compared with product XQ-F3. The results indicated that polycondensation between hydroxy of polyether silicon and carboxylic hydroxy of VF occurred, the performance of VF could be improved by polyether silicon. The emulsifying surface tension of SVF decreased to 17.0 N/m, compared with 18.2 N/m of VF.The application results showed that the physical mechanical properties of leather fatliquored by SVF was equivalent to the leather fatliquored by industrial XQ-F3 fatliquor.
