Coating Fine Copper Powder with Polyaniline

To improve the stability of fine copper powder, three methods were tried to coat it with polyaniline. Pretreated, the powder was put into aniline solution. As ammonium persulfate solution was added slowly, aniline changed into polyaniline and coated on copper powder. It is proved that one of the methods is effective and can form good core‐shell structure. The shell of the composite contains reduced undoped polyaniline and a little cuprous oxide. The composite has four stages of degradation in nitrogen and is more stable than fine copper powder in air.

Chemical Synthesis, Characterization and Thermal Analysis of Polyaniline/Copper Composite Powder

To improve the stability of fine copper powder, it was pretreated by benzotriazole first. Then ammonium persulfate was dripped into treated powder/aniline suspension to produce polyaniline/copper composite. Detected by field emission scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, X-ray diffractometer and FT-IR spectroscopy, it has been proved that the composite has core-shell structure, its core is of copper particles, and its shell is interlaced with reduced half-oxidized polyaniline fibers. Tested by thermogravimetric analyzer, the composite had four stages of degradation in nitrogen and was more stable than copper powder in air.
