Introduction and aim of the study. Research on young adults’ quality-of-life are important from the point of view of the public health. An attempt was made to examine satisfaction with life current students who have been brought up in the world of tech, unlimited access to information, and often limited requirements. A broad comparison of the quality-of-life factors among young people studying in three Polish universities. Material and methods. The work made use of The Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) method to assess global life satisfaction. The investigation involved 238 young adults studying in University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Olsztyn High School and Gdansk University of Technology. Results and conclusions. Students differ in terms of their current quality-of-life in relation to sex – women have a lower subjective quality-of-life than men. There were no statistically significant differences in other variables analyzed: life events, coping with stress, age, national origin or place of study. Relatively low quality of students’ life may be the result of social conditions, such as, for example, lack of employment and financial dependence on their parents. Accepting the presumption that quality of life is connected with quality of work, we get a vicious circle: even if dissatisfied students find a job, its quality is not rewarding. Therefore, it is important to search the quality of life conditions for young adults.

Summary Background Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN) are rare neoplasms that originate from neuroendocrine cells and are characterized by the potential of hormonal activity. Approximately 70% of these tumours are located in the gastrointestinal system (GI), followed by the bronchi, endocrine glands-like C cells of the thyroid (medullary carcinoma), the parasympathetic and sympathetic system (paragangliomas, pheochromocytoma) and other very rare locations. The prevalence of cerebral metastases in neuroendocrine tumours is estimated by various authors to be approximately 1.5–5%. When the primary tumour is located in the pancreas, it is associated with a risk of cerebral metastases lower than 2%. Case Report We describe a patient with a disseminated pancreatic NEN that presented with an isolated lesion in the brain. We gathered the important data via medical history,, observation, analysis of medical records, imaging and others diagnostic tests. Despite the fairly rare prevalence of cerebral metastases in NENs, a neurological work-up should be performed. This should include neuroimaging of the brain, preferably with MR, together with the somatostatin receptor scintigraphy (SRS), in each clinically suspicious case. A histopathological examination of the CNS tumour can confirm a dedifferentiation of NEN in the direction of a neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC – neuroednocrine carcinoma) with a poor prognosis. Conclusions Cerebral metastases are diagnosed in 1.5–5% of patients with a neuroendocrine neoplasm. In each case suggestive of a dissemination into the central nervous system, MRI of the brain should be performed.

Aging of the population in the highly developed countries brings an increasing interest in the organization of the geriatric care. Efforts are undertaken towards the development of a geriatric care management model which would fulfill the following criteria: continuity, complexity and availability. Such model would focus on the early diagnosis of health disorders, what should decrease the need for the hospitalization of persons at the advanced age and therefore reduce the cost of medical care. The calendar age not always corresponds to the biological age of a person, and there is no agreement as to what year of life should be considered as the border of an „old age” of the given person. Medical care should therefore be adapted to the individual needs of each patient. A goal of this report is to define rehabilitation and areas of functioning of aging persons which should be considered while developing strategies for the geriatric care management in the aging population

In this article we analyse attitudes about smoking and motivations to smoke among college students in the USA and Poland. To provide the context for this discussion we first discuss historical changes in the economic, business, and legal environments in both countries since World War II. We follow with an empirical test of attitudes towards smoking and motivations to smoke using a survey distributed to 192 undergraduate students in the two countries. The results show that in both countries young people view smoking more negatively now than they did in the past, probably in response to the changing macro-environment. Overall motivations to smoke among young consumers in these two countries are similar, but differences exist and are explored in this study.
