This paper discusses the role of credit in the capitalist accumulation. It presents Hilferding’s analysis of the financing of corporations and of the role of stock exchange as an agent of the mobilization of capital. Theoretical and historical elements are deployed to support a conjecture about the changing relationship between fictitious and real capital and its relevance for the theoretical analysis of contemporary capitalism.

This article examines a decisive moment in the critique of political economy developed by Marx, which is the somewhat abrupt choice of the concept of merchandise as a starting point for the book Contribution to a Critique of Political Economy, of 1859. It is known that up until a few months before he delivered his text to the publisher, Marx thought about beginning his book with a chapter on value, similar to what Ricardo had done in his Principles. The theoretical and methodological implications of this choice are well known today. This text seeks to situate the circumstances and meanings of the concept of merchandise in Marxs work.

This paper intends to contribute to the theoretical and methodological debate on regionalization and history. Firstly, it starts discussing the very concept of region on its several related approaches: geography, political economy, history and historiography. Then, a methodological issue is analyzed, that is to say: the paper tries to articulate the most important criteria of spatial segmentation embedded on regionalization (analytical functionalism, heterogeneity and homogeneity) with: a) the necessity of non-anachronism; and b) the necessity of a historical dynamic approach on definition of regional boundaries.
