While most biology classes cannot actually perform many of the experiments that have elicited so much attention in the recent explosion in biotechnology, computer simulation is an excellent alternative. There are several reasons for this direction. First, some of the experiments involve the use of neurotoxic chemicals which should be used only with great care under superb laboratory conditions, and some of the reagents and equipment are prohibitively expensive for most high school and undergraduate college laboratories. Second, the time involved in many of these experiments clearly exceeds the one-to-three-hour work times available in most lab blocks. Third, students benefit great-
