Tetrahedron Letters | 2003

Allylic and benzylic oxidation using cobalt(II) alkyl phosphonate modified silica

Magdalena Jurado-Gonzalez; Alice C. Sullivan; John Robert Howe Wilson

Abstract The allylic and benzylic oxidation of a range of substrates proceeds in good yield using catalytic quantities of cobalt(II) alkyl phosphonate modified silica and tert-butyl hydroperoxide.

Tetrahedron Letters | 2003

Oxidation of alcohols using cerium(IV) alkyl phosphonate modified silica

Nazli Al-Haq; Alice C. Sullivan; John Robert Howe Wilson

The oxidation of a range of alcohols to ketones or carboxylic acids proceeds in good yield using catalytic quantities of cerium(IV) phosphonate modified silica and sodium bromate as the re-oxidant.

Journal of Materials Chemistry | 2002

Synthesis, characterisation and catalytic activity of porous vanadyl phosphonate-modified silicas

Magdalena Jurado-Gonzalez; Duan Li Ou; Alice C. Sullivan; John Robert Howe Wilson

Synthetic routes to porous ethylphosphonic acid-modified silicas with high T/Q ratios are described. The resulting materials were characterised using 29Si, 31P and 13C solid state NMR, nitrogen sorption porosimetry and elemental analysis. In addition, conditions for post-modification using [VO(SO4)·5H2O] are described; the vanadyl derivatives were characterised by porosimetry, elemental analysis, EPR and UV-Vis spectroscopy. One of these vanadyl derivatives is a useful catalyst for the oxidation of cis-cyclooctene using aqueous hydrogen peroxide as the oxidant.

Chemical Communications | 2001

A new solid acid catalyst: the first phosphonate and phosphonic acid functionalised microporous polysilsesquioxanes

Magdalena Jurado-Gonzalez; Duan Li Ou; Bradley Ormsby; Alice C. Sullivan; John Robert Howe Wilson

A novel microporous solid acid, the phosphonic acid modified npolysilsesquioxane [(HO)SiCH2CHPO(OH)2- nCH2CH2SiO2(OH)]n P2, nfrom the new single precursor compound n[(EtO)3SiCH2CHPO(OCH2CH3) n2CH2CH2- Si(OEt)3] 1, is nreported, along with the catalytic activity of P2 for the npinacol–pinacolone rearrangement.
