This paper outlines the design strategy for the University of Johannesburgs (UJs) hybrid vehicle entry into the South African Solar Challenge (SASC) 2010. The SASC is a biennial event focused on alternative energies and showcasing various automotive technologies. The SASC is broken up into different classes; UJ entered in the Greenfleet Technology class. This paper presents the design principles and strategies used to implement a working prototype vehicle which is hybrid (propelled by multiple energy sources) and autonomous (able to operate without human assistance).

Solar vehicles compete in various events around the world, called Solar Challenges. Successful vehicles must carefully plan and optimise their energy consumption for the course of the race. Doing so requires detailed information about the vehicle dynamics, the route, and the availability of solar energy at each point along the route. This paper describes the modelling method and integration of data sources used by the University of Johannesburgs Solar Team for the 2012 South African Solar Challenge.

. The optimization criterion is the long time average of a running cost function. Under various sets of hypotheses, we establish the existence of mean field game solutions. We also study the long time behavior of mean field game solutions associated with the finite horizon problem, and under the assumption of geometric ergodicity for the dynamics, we show that these converge to the ergodic mean field game solution as the horizon tends to infinity. Lastly, we study the associated

Automation systems are the modern means of operation for a wide spectrum of industrial production processes, such as chemical plants, steel mills, paper mills, oil refineries or mineral processes. The automation system is increasingly not only the platform for control algorithms but also for planning and scheduling solutions. Because of the importance and relevance of automation systems for instrument and control engineers, it is highly beneficial that students and industry professionals alike get exposure to automation systems in a safe and accessible laboratory environment. This paper investigates the construction of a model discrete manufacturing plant, built with Fischertechnik model stations, and using ABBs Freelance AC800F industrial automation software. The aim is to create an automation environment which can be utilized for discrete manufacturing planning and scheduling research, software development as well as demonstration for educational purposes.
