A Study on the Risk Level of Work Types in Nuclear Power Plant Construction

The goal of this study was to investigate some significant factors to influence level of safety at plant construction field and analyze degree of risk by work classification. Currently, there are lots of construction fields for the nuclear power plant for electricity generation, and our government also planned constructing more nuclear power plant in near future. However, much of the safety literature neglected the degree of risk factors on the plant construction field. Safety managers participated in the brainstorming session for drawing decision criteria of the degree of risk (i.e., significant factors). Then, they were asked to answer a structured questionnaire which was developed for drawing most important factors. Finally, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was used to analyze level of risk by work classification. The following results were obtained. First, total twelve factors judging degree of risk were found in the brainstorming session. Second, the questionnaire showed four significant factors, including number of workers, working environments, skill of craft and accident experience. Third, the results of AHP showed Architecture work is the most dangerous work among 6 work types. The results could be used to reduce degree of risk in construction field of the nuclear power plant.

A Study on The Risk Level of Work Types in Urban Railway Construction

The goals of this study were to investigate some significant factors to judge level of safety at urban railway construction field and to analyze degree of risk by work classification. Currently, there are lots of construction fields for the urban railway for national transportation, and our government also planned constructing more urban railway in near future. However, most of the researches on safety neglected the degree of risk factors on the urban railway construction field. Safety managers participated in the brainstorming session for deriving decision criteria of the degree of risk (i.e., significant factors). Then, they were asked to answer a structured questionnaire which was developed for deriving most important factors. Finally, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was used to analyze level of risk by work classification. The following results were obtained. First, total twelve factors judging degree of risk were found in the brainstorming session. Second, the questionnaire showed four significant factors, including adjacency of obstacle, intensity of work, unsafe condition and work space. Third, the results of AHP showed civil work is the most dangerous work among 6 work types. The results could be used to give the safety management priority on accident prevention efforts among several hazards and to reduce degree of risk in construction field of the urban railway.

Comparison of Karasek's Job Content Questionnaire and Korea Occupational Stress Scale

According to the report of the WHO, workers have been exposed to much job strain such as job load, responsibility, role, interpersonal conflict etc. In Korea, studies on job strain started to become active from 1990s and now hundreds of studies are actively under going or publishing so that the studies are contributing to development and improvement of job strain. Representative measurement models of job strain are Job Strain Model of Karasek, Job Stress Model of NOISH, Korea Occupational Stress Scale, JSQ(Job Stress Questionnaire), K-OSI(Korea Version of Occupational Stress Inventory) etc. (Lee Kwan-Suk, 2012 ; KOSHA, 2003). Among them, Job Strain Model of Karasek had been loved by many researchers of job strain before Korea Occupational Stress Scale was developed. Job Strain Model of Karasek had been fitted to Korean style and then, used to analyze job strain of Korean people so that this Scale highly contributed to seeking relationship with cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal disease caused by job, smoking, drug, alcohol poisoning, and pulse(Lee Kwan-Suk, 2012). But as this Model was studied and developed based on foreign culture and life pattern, a model fit to Korea was developed to measure job strain for Korean people, which is Korea Occupational Stress Scale now most frequently used in measuring job strain. Accordingly, after this study made questionnaire survey about same population using the two methods used most frequently in measuring job strain, the study investigated what features appeared, what correlations appear between two models, and comparatively analyzed characteristics each independent and dependent variable. Based on this, the study aimed to exactly express job strain of Korean people. The subjects of the study were a population of 233, and Karaseks Questionnaire and KOSSs Questionnaire were surveyed at the same time. Assessment of risk of unit work in nuclear power plant construction using AHP

The purpose of this study is to analyze the degree of risk of the working unit of nuclear power plants construction. In order to do this, and the risk index by type and source of risk judgment derived in the previous study were utilized. Further, to derive a risk index of unit work in nuclear power plant construction, a survey targeting safety professionals was conducted. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was used for analysis of the survey. The following results were obtained. Firstly, the results of AHP showed that main building work is the most dangerous work, and base excavation work is the second dangerous work among 21 unit works. Secondly, so, it is required to invest more and to take a increasing interest in unit works of civil and architecture as compared to other unit works. Further, the results could be used to reduce the degree of risk in construction of the nuclear power plant.

A Study on Job Stress and Work Ability of Technical Workers and Simple Labor Workers in Apartment Construction

Abstract : In recent studies, construction industry workers with higher job stress and lower work ability were more likely to experience accidents at their workplace. Likewise, fatal accidents rate was higher among simple labor workers compared to technical workers. Therefore the evaluation of a workers job stress and work ability seems to be important in preventing the occurrence of fatal accidents. To search for ways to reduce job stress and to improve work ability, the current study conducted a job stress analysis based on age, years of service, skill level, hobbies, sleep patterns, and monthly income. For this, the Korean occupational stress questionnaire sh ort form and the Work Ability Index (WAI) developed by the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH) were used. In this study, SPSS 12.0K statistics program was used for statistical analysis and significance was verified by the Kruskal-Wallis test and non-parametri c tests. The results of this study can be summarized as follows : (1) Simple labor workers had higher job stress and less work ability than technical workers. (2) The more experienced workers had lower job stress and higher work ability. (3) In the case of workers who slept a lot, work ability was higher and job stress was less. (4) Monthly income influenced on the job stress and work ability. (5) Job stress and work ability in accordance with the age difference was not significant.
