Train detection in railway platform area using image processing technology

Sehchan Oh; Yong-Ki Yoon; Jong-Hyun Baek; Hyun-Jeong Jo

Currently, dozens of CCTVs are widely used in railway station for monitoring passengers in danger and security areas. The most frequent accidents occur at the platform area where passengers boarding the train. However, It is almost impossible that station operator monitors dozens of CCTV screens and recognizes immediately accidents and handle them. Therefore, railway platform monitoring system using image processing technology which automatically detects platform accidents is needed, and in order to that, preferentially, accurate determination of train state in the platform is required. In the paper, we propose train state detection algorithm for vision based railway platform monitoring system. the proposed algorithm determines four different states i.e. trains approach(IN), departure(OUT), stop(ON), and empty(OFF) of the train, in the platform. To evaluate the proposed algorithm, we present the train detection results for the Seoul Metro Line 4 Dongjak and Namtaeryeong Station.

Simulator design for communication based train control system

Sehchan Oh; Kang-Mi Lee; Min-Soo Kim; Jong-Hyun Baek

The primary function of train control system prevents train collisions by keeping the safe interval with the preceding train. The train control system is consisted of wayside and onboard equipment. The wayside train control system generates control information necessary for train operation, and the onboard train control system controls operational conditions of vehicle and train speeds through information transmitted from the wayside. To improve practical usability in the business area, the safety analysis and evaluation of train control system are needed. In this paper, we design train control simulator for communication based train control system to evaluate the design of train control and operation. The paper presents the simulation configuration, and designed modules and those operations.

ATP Functional Procedure of the Train Control System for an Automated Train Coupling/Decoupling Operation

Sehchan Oh; Kang-Mi Lee; Min-Soo Kim; Jong-Hyun Baek

A train coupling/decoupling technology is essential not only for a usual operation for a formation building of the train, but also for an operation with variable formation according to the change in transportation demand within the same line and for an equalization of the allocation interval of the main and branch lines. However, there are problems of long time required and frequent occurrence of accidents due to the human error since the existing train coupling/decoupling operation is completely accomplished by intervention of the operator. Therefore, an automated train coupling/decoupling system is required. This paper presents an ATP (Automatic Train Protection) functional procedure to develop a train control system which enables an automated coupling/decoupling operation of the train.

Software black-box testing tool for railway signaling system by real interface

Jong-Gyu Hwang; Jong-Hyun Baek; Hyun-Jeong Jo; Kang-Mi Lee

The railway signaling system is being converted to the computer system from the exiting electrical equipment, and then the dependency on software is being increased. So far, the software validation has been mainly dependent profess, the these methodology is just depended to software experts as a tester. So it is our situation where not only validation of the document on safety activities being required, but also another automatci testing tool for vital railway signaling software. There were difficult to take advantage at the existing software black-box testing tool like usage of internal memory access of target system. This paper have proposed a new black-box testing tools with enhanced usability and the represents the design and prototype result for proposed tool.

Yong-Kyu Kim; Ju-Yeop Kim; Sehchan Oh; Jong-Hyun Baek; Yong-Ki Yoon; Woo-Hyun Kwak

A method of common earth, which is proposed by French Railway(SNCF) and is applied to high speed railway, minimizes the effect of the traction return current from tracks so that trackside electric devices can be protected and operation and maintenance staffs are kept out from injury in an electric railway environment. According to it, all the new domestic electric railway lines are replaced from existing individual earth method to the common earth method. In this paper, we analyze the correlation between common earth method and traction return current to prove whether the common earth has surely contributed to minimize the effect of the traction return current. The analysis was done based on the measurement of the traction return current at the domestic high speed railway line

Interoperability Test and Testing Tool for Railway Signaling System

Jong-Gyu Hwang; Hyun-Jeong Jo; Jong-Hyun Baek

Abstract Railway signaling system is the vital control system in charge of the core for safely train operation, itsfunctional safety must be checked through sufficient verification. Until now, to verify the interoperability of developedrailway signaling system, the on-site testing approaches have been applied after testing in laboratory with simulator. This approaches are some limited range of interoperable verification, so ㅡ ore systematic verification interoperabilityis required. In this paper, the three phases of interoperability verification for railway signaling system was proposed, and methodology for each phases are represented. And also The interoperability validation methodology and supportedtesting tool for railway signaling system is represented in this paper Keywords : Black-box Testing, Conformance Testing, Interoperability Test, Software Testing Tool, TTCN-3 본 논문은 2015년도 한국철도기술연구원 주요사업의 연구비 지원으로 수행되었음. * Corresponding Author : Jong-Gyu Hwang(Korea Railroad Research Institute)Tel: +82-31-460-5438 email: [email protected] May 26, 2015 Accepted September 11, 2015Revised August 31, 2015Published September 30, 2015

Jong-Gyu Hwang; Jong-Hyun Baek; Hyun-Jeong Jo; Kang-Mi Lee

In accordance with the increase in importance of software within railway signaling system, risk costs due to the software error are increasing too. Accordingly, software validation in various aspects is required, and the needs for supporting tool which can automate it are raised. In Korea, the black-box testing tool of railway signaling system taking into consideration of the convenience of use which was developed to solve demerits of existing commercial tools was proposed and developed recently. This tool is an approach which generates test data on the basis of the international standard test language, TTCN-3(Testing and Test Control Notation-3), and utilizes interfaces for actual use, and its convenience of use was enhanced in comparison with existing tools, and more effective test is possible with it. This paper describes the system-level black-box testing process on the on-board control system which is one of the railway signaling systems and its result by utilizing this tool. In addition, it considers effects of study and direction of development in the future on the basis of its result.

Yoo-Ho Kim; Jong-Gyu Hwang; Hyun-Jeong Jo; Jong-Hyun Baek; Baek-Hyun Kim; Tae Kuk Ko

Many accidents are being occurred due to many missteps, etc. at the railway platform. Recently in Korea, efforts to prevent casualties fundamentally are being made by installing and operating the PSD(Platform Screen Door) with underground station building as its center to prevent these casualties of passengers. Although this PSD can solve the problem of public casualties at platform fundamentally, it is impossible to install it at whole station buildings since its installation cost is high, and in case of the ground station building of general railway whose operation speed is higher, installation of PSD is impossible due to the characteristics of railway system. This paper proposes the novel safety equipment using Laser radar sensors for the prevention against casualties of passengers at station buildings where the PSDs are not installed like this. The safety equipment using Laser radar sensors is the safety equipment making an approaching train stopped if the falling object is a person by detecting the obstacle at platform through, and it has the merit possible to apply it to station buildings not only in the underground section but also in the ground section since it may detect accurately under ambient environmental elements such as the snow, rain and yellow dust, etc. also. We developed the prototype of the safety equipment to reduce public casualties at platform by using Laser radar sensors and carried out its performance test, and the result is presented in this paper.
