AODV based Energy Efficient Routing Protocol for Maximum Lifetime in MANET

Jin-Man Kim; Jong-Wook Jang

A mobile ad-hoc network which does not use a wired network and base station system is composed of a group of mobile and wireless nodes. There are various types of restrictions. The biggest restriction is the confined energy of the batteries. If the network is divided into more than two, and one of the nodes consumes all the energy, that node can no longer participate in the network. In recent years, much research has been under taken to not only improve the energy storage but also to lengthen the networks lifetime. In this paper, we propose that the enhanced AODV (Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector) routing protocol which is modified to improve the networks lifetime in MANET (Mobile Ad-hoc NETwork). One improvement for the AODV protocol is to maximize the networks lifetime by applying an Energy Mean Value algorithm which considerate node energy-aware. We know the effectiveness of enhanced AODV compared with existing AODV by using NS-2. ..

Low Latency Vertical Handover Using MIH L2-Trigger Algorithm in Mobile IP Networks

Jin-Man Kim; Jong-Wook Jang

Recently, information communication market is reorganized focused on the digital convergence service used for integrating the communication, broadcasting and internet media by connecting the communication equipment, broadcasting equipment and computer via a network. The mobility support protocol enabling the effective handover between heterogeneous networks is emerged as the hot issue in relation with these next generation communication networks. In this paper, we are to suggest the MIH Vertical handover procedure required for the implementation of MIH over MIPv4 Low-Latency vertical handover by analyzing the handover performance in the overlap area between wireless networks using the vertical handover function of MIPv4 Mobile IP Technology of IETF and considering the expected problems. Also, we are to suggest the MIH L2-Trigger generation algorithm required for deciding the optimal handoff. We evaluate the vertical handover performance of MIPv4 low-latency in the overlap area between wireless networks by using the NS-2 and applying the IEEE 802.21 MIH (Media Independent Handover) based on the suggested technique and algorithm.

Unified Identification for Event Driven Service in User-Centric Environments

Soong Hee Lee; Dong-Il Kim; Hyung-Goo Jeon; Jong-Wook Jang

Considerations for user-centric environments are regarded as essential for the successful deployment of convergence services in BcN. Event driven service (EDS) is regarded as a typical convergence service converging different functions of multiple service providers to support user-centric environments. This paper first describes the deployment model and service scenario of EDS, a convergence service for user-centric environments in BcN. The user-centric environments stimulates the unified identifier management, namely unified identification (U-ID), to enable users to be provided convergence services without awareness of multiple providers. Then the designed structure and implementation results are given.

Performance evaluation of new DBA algorithm supporting fairness for EPON

Seong-Ho Jang; Jin-Man Kim; Jong-Wook Jang

EPON is an emerging local subscriber access network that consists of low-cost point-to-multipoint fiber infrastructure with Ethernet. Because several ONUs use a single shared medium in EPON, it is important to control upstream traffic. An EPON allocates upstream bandwidth to ONUs using a request/permit mechanism. In this paper, we proposed a new DBA algorithm supporting multiple priority queues and evaluated its performance. From the simulation result, we have confirmed that our proposed DBA algorithm can reduce the average queue length in comparison to that of ETRIs DBA algorithm.

Implementation of integrated OBD-II connector with external network

Sung-Hyun Baek; Jong-Wook Jang

AbstractOrdinarily, a driver knows the current driving state of a vehicle through the On Board Diagnosis-II (OBD-II) data. Lately convenience devices related to real-time vehicle control and driving information data have been using OBD-II from the vehicle network. However, when these devices receive vehicle data rom the OBD-II network, each device receives its own information separately using its own vehicle network. If the driver changes the product and OBD-II connector to use OBD-II, the driver also changes the OBD-II connector. As a result, the driver spends useless money for the product and vehicle to use OBD-II.In this paper, we implemented integrating an OBD-II connector that uses Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and WCDMA modules to overcome the above disadvantage.

Implementation Vehicle Driving State System with OBD-II, MOST network

Sung-Hyun Baek; Da-Woon Jeong; You-Sin Park; Hwa-Sun Kim; Mi-Jin Kim; Jong-Wook Jang

Vehicle black boxes that have similar functions as airplane black boxes are currently being used due to the loss of many lives and properties arising from vehicle accidents. Both black-box products and Event Data Recorder(EDR) systems are currently available in the market. Most of the existing in-vehicle black boxes, however, record only external videos and images and cannot show the vehicles driving status, whereas EDR products record only the driving status and not external videos. To address the problem of black boxes that can record only videos and images and that of EDR systems that can record only driving data, an Vehicle Driving State System(VDSS) that uses MOST(Media-oriented System Transport), a new vehicle multimedia network, and OBD-II(Onboard Diagnostics II), a current standard of electronic-control network, was realized in this study to collect data from the electronic-control devices. The system uses external sensors such as CAM (camera) and GPS (global positioning system) to collect video, time, and location data that will be needed to make a judgment on the vehicles current status.

Development And Performance Evaluation of a BR-DBA Algorithm

Seung-Kun Lee; Jong-Wook Jang; Moon-Han Bae

PON (Passive Optical Network) is the most promising technology applicable to TPS(Triple Play Service). To improve processing the packet, MAC (Multiple Access Control) is the most important technology in the PON. The core of MAC is DBA(Dynamic Bandwidth Assignment), it classifies SR-DBA (Status Report DBA) and NSR-DBA (Non Status Report DBA). However, its bad in network efficiency because GPON DBA is using BPONs DBA. [7] This study develop BR (Borrow-Refund)-DBA for improve network efficiency and prompt process. For take the gauge of performance evaluation, estimate about throughput, fairness and queue delay in SR-DBA and NSR-DBA environment.

Result Based on NS2, Simulation and Emulation Verification

Ju-Young Shin; Jong-Wook Jang; Jin-Man Kim

The existing simulation tools that execute performance analysis for handover algorithm in different network environments do not fully reflect the actual network environments. This is where the necessity of emulation whose operation environment is built on hardware comes in. The comparative analysis between emulation node which is realtime scheduler including Ping of NS-2 Tool’s external Host and the simulator of non-realtime scheduler of the existing simulation has been performed in this paper. The most significant difference is that emulation can interlock with the packet of external real network. The objectives of this paper are as follows: the identical virtual network is constructed on NS-2, its performance is evaluated by simulation and emulation is described.

A Study on Development of Engine Fault Diagnostic System

Hwa-seon Kim; Seong-jin Jang; Jong-Wook Jang

This study implemented a mobile diagnosing system that provides user-centered interfaces for more precisely estimating and diagnosing engine conditions through communications with the self-developed ECU only for industrial CRDI engine use. For the implemented system, a new protocol was designed and applied based on OBD-II standard to receive engine data values of the developed ECU. The designed protocol consists of a message structure to request data transmission from a smartphone to ECU and a response message structure for ECU to send data to a smartphone. It transmits 31 pieces of engine condition information simultaneously and sends the trouble diagnostic code. Because the diagnostic system enables real-time communication through modules, the engine condition information can be checked at any time. Thus, because when troubles take place on the engine, users can check them right away, quick response and resolution are possible, and stable system management can be expected.
