Seasonal variation in chemical properties and degradability by anaerobic digestion of landfill leachate at Benowo in Surabaya, Indonesia.

Seasonal variations in the physical and chemical characteristics of leachate taken from Benowo landfill in Indonesia, including factors likely to inhibit anaerobic digestion, were investigated to determine the impacts on the stability of anaerobic treatment. To evaluate the biodegradability of the leachate, a continuous experiment was conducted by changing the organic loading rate (OLR). Chemical oxygen demand (COD) ranged between 2621 and 16,832 mg L(-1), and COD in the dry season was twice the level in the rainy season owing to reduced rainwater input and significant evaporation. COD, pH, and the concentrations of ammonium ion, and metals in the leachate were within acceptable ranges for decomposition by anaerobic digestion. However, the Na(+) and Cl(-) in the leachate are high enough to inhibit anaerobic digestion. From chemical investigation of leachate at six monitoring wells in Benowo, food waste accumulation and seawater intrusion might cause high salinity in the leachate. In the continuous experiment, COD removal efficiency was maintained at 40% regardless of OLR, suggesting that at least 40% of the leachate contained biodegradable substances. Based on these results, issues surrounding the biological treatment of saline and refractory substances in landfill leachate were discussed. It is suggested that high salinity and refractory substances in the leachate are common issues during the leachate treatment by anaerobic digestion as the implications for similar landfills in other countries around the world.

Inventarisasi Fluktuasi Emisi Polutan NOx, CO2, dan CH4 di Bandar Udara Internasional Juanda Kabupaten Sidoarjo

Inventarisasi emisi dilakukan dengan mendaftar besaran polutan dari sumber pencemar dari sektor energi, yaitu transportasi on-road , transportasi off-road , dan sektor limbah yang meliputi limbah padat domestik dan limbah cair domestik. Rentang waktu invetarisasi adalah tahun 2006 hingga tahun 2016. Perhitungan menggunakan worksheet Atmospheric Brown Clouds (ABC) – Emission Inventory Manual (EIM) Excel 2013 dan worksheet IPCC 2006 Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (GL) Excel. Identifikasi menunjukkan NO X dan CH 4 berasal dari pembakaran kurang sempurna pada transportasi on-road maupun off-road . Fluktuasi emisi sektor transportasi on-road sangat bergantung pada jenis kendaraan, sedangkan sektor transportasi off-road sangat bergantung pada tipe pesawat. Fluktuasi emisi sektor limbah padat domestik bergantung pada efisiensi pembakaran di insenerator, sedangkan faktor emisi limbah cair domestik bergantung pada bangunan pengolahan. Alternatif yang disarankan pada sektor off-road berupa menejemen LTO (kegiatan taxi). Pada transportasi on-road , yaitu realisasi pengadaan dan penggunaan kereta api.

Kajian Tentang Kontribusi Jawa Timur Terhadap Emisi CO2 Melalui Transportasi dan Penggunaan Energi

Emisi CO2 yang dihasilkan Provinsi Jawa Timur dari sektor transportasi dan penggunaan energi di industri sebesar 8.999.000 ton CO2 pada tahun 2007 dan 4.098.760 ton CO2 pada tahun 2005. Jumlah emisi CO2 ini akan bertambah seiring peningkatan jumlah kendaraan bermotor dan penggunaan energi di industri. Tujuan dari kajian ini adalah untuk menganalisis kontribusi Jawa Timur terhadap emisi CO2 dari sektor transportasi dan penggunaan energi di industri sedang dan besar. Pada kajian kontribusi, emisi CO2 dilakukan perhitungan emisi untuk sektor transportasi dan penggunaan energi di industri dengan menggunakan metode IPCC. Data masing-masing sektor didapatkan dari tahun 2012 dan diproyeksikan hingga tahun 2025. Perhitungan emisi dilakukan terhadap penggunaan bahan bakar fosil dan sesuai dengan tiga skenario yang telah disusun. Emisi CO2 yang dihasilkan pada tahun 2025 dari sektor transportasi sebesar 41.550.009,80 ton CO2 dan sektor industri sebesar 1.063.646,64 ton CO2. Penurunan emisi CO2 berdasarkan skenario yang paling baik adalah skenario kedua sebesar 5.657,08 ton CO2. Emisi yang dihasilkan sektor transportasi dan industri untuk skenario kedua sebesar 41.545.660,30 ton CO2 dan 1.062.339,05 ton CO2.
