Novel temperature insensitive long-period grating by using the refractive index of the outer cladding

We show the temperature sensitivity of long period gratings (LPGs) in fibre can be completely eliminated by using the outer cladding index. Blue shift of LPG combined with a red shift caused by the recoating led to a temperature sensitivity of 0.07 nm/100/spl deg/C.

Optical properties and reliability of recoated long-period fiber gratings for EDFA gain flattening

Coupling behavior of long-period fiber gratings (LPG) is very sensitive to ambient condition and bending. We used a UV-curable polymer with suitable refractive index and measured optical properties of recoated LPG. We applied it to filter design for EDFA gain flattening.
