Multi-objective allocation of multi-function workers with lower bounded capacity

Albert Corominas; Jordi Ojeda; Rafael Pastor

This paper deals with the assignment of a type of task to each member of a multi-function staff (each worker is able to perform a given subset of types of tasks, possibly with a priority index associated to each element of the subset). The resulting number of workers for each type of task must be not less than a given lower bound and as close as possible to another given value. The objectives are to minimize a function of the slacks and the surpluses of capacity, to distribute the slacks and the surpluses homogeneously among the types of task and to maximize the sum of priority indexes of the assignments. The problem is modelled as a nonlinear mixed integer program and is transformed and solved as a minimum cost flow problem.

Knowledge Based Information Retrieval with an Adaptive Hypermedia System

Francisca Grimón; Josep Maria Monguet; Jordi Ojeda

This paper describes research on information retrieval with an adaptive hypermedia system (AHS) used during three higher education courses taught in a blended learning (BL) environment. The system generates different work plans for each student, according to their profile. Work plans are adapted by means of an algorithm. AHS enable course contents to be adapted to the learning needs of each student and structured in a way that leads to many different learning paths. The case study method was used in this research. The results suggest that the AHS has a positive impact on the learning process. Further research is needed to confirm these results.

The Costs of Non-training in Chronic Wounds: Estimates through Practice Simulation

Pedro Gaspar; Joseph Monguet; Jordi Ojeda; João Costa; Rogério Costa

The high prevalence and incidence rates of chronic wounds represent high financial costs for patients, families, health services, and for society in general. Therefore, the proper training of health professionals engaged in the diagnosis and treatment of these wounds can have a very positive impact on the reduction of costs.
