La enseñanza de la perspectiva como parte de la fortificación en el siglo XVIII: el caso de la Real Academia de Matemáticas de Barcelona

Este articulo pretende demostrar la manera en que durante buena parte del siglo XVIII, la ensenanza de la perspectiva que se llevo a cabo al interior de las academias de ingenieros militares, tuvo que despojarse del caracter simbolico que tuvo durante anos para arquitectos, pintores y escultores. A traves del estudio de caso de la Real Academia de Matematicas de Barcelona se pone en evidencia la manera en que esta disciplina paso a engrosar, junto con la estatica, la mecanica y otras ciencias matematicas, un universo de saberes alcanzable para los ingenieros de la modernidad.

Rehabilitation Techniques for Walls during the 18th Century in Cartagena de Indias (Colombia)

ABSTRACT Although it may be thought that the rehabilitation of historical structures is a concern of modern engineering, studies on intervention processes from the past allow us to understand that this is a work carried out frequently and sometimes as a solution to low budgets for the construction of new buildings, or the need to offer quick practical solutions. The objective of this article is to show the way in which during the second half of the 18th century several important architectural and structural rehabilitation works were carried out in the walls of Cartagena de Indias, in view of the damage caused by the enemy attacks to the city as well as continuous impact by nature. By making use of primary sources (plans and original reports), the way in which two of the interventions were executed can be reconstructed: one on the Muralla Real, and another on the San José bastion, gathering information that helps explain their current state of conservation.Although it may be thought that the rehabilitation of historical structures is a concern of modern engineering, studies on intervention processes from the past allow us to understand that this is a...

Abstract Through a comparative study of two similar fortifications in their geometric and defensive characteristics, this paper gives a description of each of them on a historical narrative that allows specifying how the processes of transformation and adaptation of buildings was given continuously, like a single project it were , away from the traditional model usually think that American fortifications were a simple adaptation of which were built in Spain . The Dissemination of Military Perspective through Fortification Treatises between the Sixteenth and Eighteenth Centuries

AbstractThis paper describes the rapid dissemination of the technique of military perspective by writers of fortification treatises beginning in the sixteenth century in France and Spain, thanks to the operational advantages it represented for engineers of the time. The study reviews the analyses of authors who dedicated chapters to the topic and surveys the images that shaped their impressions.

El edificio para el Batallón Pichincha de Cali (1906-1968)

A partir de la reconstruccion historica del proceso de levantamiento de un edificio como lo fue el del Batallon Pichincha, se explica la forma como la ciudad de Cali oriento su desarrollo urbano hacia la margen norte del rio que lleva su nombre. La primera parte de este articulo trata de los antecedentes morfologicos de la ciudad y de la manera como la construccion del llamado puente de calicanto permitio expandir el centro historico hacia el norte como parte de un proposito de integracion entre la ciudad y el rio. La segunda parte describe el proceso constructivo del edificio castrense para desde alli explicar la transformacion de su entorno inmediato y como se genero un nuevo modelo de expansion urbana.
