RoadGraph - Graph based environmental modelling and function independent situation analysis for driver assistance systems

Jörn Christian Knaup; Kai Homeier

RoadGraph is a graph based environmental model for driver assistance systems. It integrates information from different sources like digital maps, onboard sensors and V2X communication into one single model about vehicles environment. At the moment of information aggregation some function independent situation analysis is done. In this paper the concept of the RoadGraph is described in detail and first results are shown.

CityACC – On the way towards an intelligent autonomous driving

Thanh Binh To; Marc-Michael Meinecke; Frank Schroven; Sergiu Nedevschi; Jörn Christian Knaup

Abstract As comfort systems, the existing Adaptive Cruise Control systems (ACC-systems) function well on motorways and well-structured highways, but there are a lot of challenges for machine-supported driving in urban environments. This paper is aimed to introduce an innovative way to extension of the existing ACC-system for driving in the urban environments (so-called CityACC), where the secondary optical sensor (a stereo-camera) and an intelligent decision making algorithm are used for improving the performance of the whole system.

Progress of Intersection Safety System Development: Volkswagen Within the INTERSAFE-2 Project

Jörn Christian Knaup; Simon Herrmann; Marc-Michael Meinecke; Marian Andrzej Obojski

A high number of accidents in the European countries happens at intersections. The Volkswagen AG is building up a demonstrator for developing intersection safety related driver assistance functions within the project INTERSAFE-2. These functions will be a contribution to make driving in urban intersection scenarios safer. The sensor setup of the demonstrator, the system architecture with its environmental models and the single functions are described in this paper.
