The research on Industry 4.0 is increasing in importance over the years due to the expectation that it represents a new industrial paradigm, increasing competitiveness to the industries that can adopt it. The objective of this paper is to study the main points of research on Industry 4.0, featured universities and research centers. Using methodology based on bibliographic review, we analyzed a total of 546 papers, which composed the proceedings of the International Conference Advances in Production Management Systems (APMS), in 2014 held in Ajaccio (France), 2015 in Tokyo (Japan) and 2016 in Iguassu Falls (Brazil) and selected 39 papers to make this research. The results revealed that Industry 4.0 is increasing in importance, broadening the field of research; some suggestions for future research are presented.

The objective of this research is to evaluate the relationships of the network formed by the important milk cluster in the city of Umuarama, State of Parana (PR)/BRAZIL, using the Social Network Analysis (SNA) focusing on the collective gains and competitive advantages of this cluster. The methodology used was qualitative and quantitative. Questionnaires were applied to the network for the characterization of the existing relationships between them, and also to present the analysis of network measures using the UCINET software and the graphics schemes of networks. It was found that this milk production network appears to be diffuse, and that there are few solid relationships, which have no central coordination; the network did not present governance relationships nor a defined empowerment with significant transaction costs relationships. The relevance of this paper is to present a procedure of study in networks that can be reproduced in future researches.

The objective of this study was to compare the factors related to the development stage and the level of competitiveness of the furniture cluster located in the northwestern region of Parana/Brazil. For the development of the research, descriptive approaches with quantitative and qualitative procedures were used. As a data collection instrument, a cross-sectional survey was applied with 20 companies in the sector. The data were interpreted from a statistical analysis using the average of the relative frequencies. The results indicated that the competitiveness index is unfavorable and the cluster is in initial stage, pointing out fragility, mainly in the item government policies.

The objective of this research is to analyze the Production Planning and Control (PPC) as a dissemination tool of the operation strategy in industries that compete in environmental sustainability. We used a qualitative methodology supported by cases studies, based on interviews with managers responsible for the production planning and control of four big Brazilian industries. The results indicated that PPC can be an efficient tool to dissiminate the operation strategy for its power of integration with the many key areas involved in an industry, what can bring pratical implications to the ones responsible for the formulation and implementation of the operation strategy. The result is of value because PPC can be used as an ally of the operation/production managers to promote and lead the implementation of the operation strategy on the shop floor.

The increase of the global energy consumption generated the search for alternative sources of energy, including solar. This study aims to identify the current stage and the possibilities of the application of solar water heating for industrial processes and to characterize the current state of the solar sector in Brazil. This study is based on bibliographic review and secondary data. The findings indicate that the use of solar water heating is a viable alternative for industrial processes in Brazil, mainly in the sectors of food, beverages, textiles and chemicals. The industrial sector is big and one of the largest final consumer of electricity; although, the Brazilian development programs for the use of solar energy stimulate residential applications, a contradiction. The research also indicates that there is a lack of professionals specialized in renewable energies to work with solar heating systems in Brazil.
