This paper outlines how information technology (IT) can help to drive business innovation and growth. Today innovation is a key to properly managing business growth from all angles. IT governance is responsible for managing and aligning IT with the business objectives; managing strategic demand through the projects portfolio or managing operational demand through the services portfolio. IT portfolios offer the possibility of finding new opportunities to make changes and improve through innovation, enabling savings in capital expenditure and the company’s IT operations staff time.

Framework for the development and reuse of educational resources in the area of Information Systems Management for different degrees at a technical university

This paper presents an innovative approach based on the collaboration among teachers from different faculties in a technical university that participate in several degrees in the same discipline and have not previously worked together. The main results consist on educational resources that can be reused through guides in the contexts of different courses. These resources have been applied in the classroom in the academic year 2010-11.

IT strategic alignment maturity model for SMEs case study: Uruguay

This article introduces a maturity model meant to measure the strategic alignment of IT in SME type organizations in Uruguay. It has been developed through an empirical study conducted in La República Oriental del Uruguay on Corporate Governance of Information Technology, to measure the IT strategic alignment present in these organizations. Analysis made on the surveyed organizations, provided the foundation for the development of a new maturity model that fits SMEs in Uruguay. This developed maturity model and its application in SME organizations -of Uruguay in this case- is hereby presented.

This paper describes the importance of technology within the corporate governance of companies, representing two main domains in enterprise architecture: business architecture and IT architecture, helping to bridge the gap between the two main domains. IT Architecture is considered as a key domain in corporative governance, giving the adequate support to business architecture that helps to improve business. Due to evolution in markets of products and services, and technological changes, as well as the strong impact of technology on all areas of business, it is necessary to clearly distinguish the importance of the IT architecture domain, as well as focus attention on the different areas related in the technology domain.

IT Governance in Family Owned Enterprises: A Spanish Approach

IT governance is the discipline of corporate governance that covers IT. Governing IT is not a simple discipline: researchers and practitioners have developed frameworks, best practices, etc. The standard ISO/IEC 38.500 sets the principles, and activities to be carried in the organization to implement IT governance. Family owned enterprises introduces a specific particularity regarding not only governance but also IT governance: the family. This paper presents an analysis of IT governance in family owned enterprises considering this singularity, from the Spanish perspective. Also, introduces two examples of implementing IT governance in family owned enterprises.
