Self-fertilization in Subulina octona (Bruguiere, 1789) was observed among 32 snails. Individually isolated for 154 days. Eggs were dctected in 38 to 50 days old snails; total number of ovipositions per snail varied from six-nine; number of eggs per cluster, one-nine and total number of eggs per snail, 16-56 during the period of study. A period of incubation of one to 15 days and a viability of 94.8% were observed for eggs layed by these isolated snails.

The study of 41 individually specimes of Subulina octona (Bruguiere. 1789) during 182 days indicated that oviposition occur between 10pm and 10am. The interval between ovipositions was from seven to 31 days. In the eggs, the greatest axis was 1.5-2.0mm while the smallest was 1.2-1.6mm. The lenght of shell of recently ecloded snails was 1.3-1.8mm. The growth rale of adult snails was measured and they grew more in the first 45 days than in the last 75 days subsequent of the study.

ABSTRACT This study was conducted to evaluate a protocoland to select novel primers for the species-specific identificationof Taenia saginata and Taenia solium by PCR and duplex-PCR assays. Sequences of the LSU rRNA gene of taenids wereobtained from the GenBank ( T. saginata access n ° AB020399and T. solium access n ° AB020395). The sequences were alignedand then used for primer design. The generic primer TBR3 (5’-ggcttgtttgaatggtttgacg- 3’) was selected from a conservedregion. The T. saginata specific primer TBR-4 (5’-cgactcatgaagataaacaaggt-3’) as well as T. solium specificprimers TBR-5 (5’-cggtcgaacagaccataaatct-3’) and TBR-6 (5’-gctactacacctaaattctaacc- 3’) were selected from different semi-conserved regions. We report a case of parasitism by Rhabditis sp in a five-month-old child, from Goias State, Brazil. He had a history of diarrhea with liquid and green faeces which later became bloody. Parasitological examination revealed the presence of larvae and adult female of Rhabditis sp. We used thiabendazole in this case after which the child improved. The authors suggest a better differential diagnostic between1 Strongyloides and Rhabditis.

Com o intuito de unir areas da Biologia, Parasitologia e Ornitologia, que ate entao caminhavam independentes, foi realizado um levantamento dos principais helmintos parasitos que ocorrem em aves Anseriformes em Goias. Para isso, as fontes de pesquisa utilizadas foram os trabalhos sobre a composicao da avifauna do estado de Goias, nos quais constam 11 especies pertencentes a ordem Anseriformes: Anhima cornuta e Chauna torquata representantes da familia Anhimidae e Anas braziliensis, Cairina moschata, Dendrocygna autumnalis, D. bicolor, D. viduata, Mergus octosetaceus, Neochen jubata, Oxyura dominica, Sarkidiornis melanoto , representantes da familia Anatidae. Em relacao aos helmintos parasitos que acometem essas especies de aves, haviam sido catalogados ate entao: Amphistoma hirudo, Strigea sphaerocephala, Zigocotyle lunatum, Neivaia cymbium, Echinostoma revolutum, Echinostoma mendax, Ophthalmophagus magalhaesi, Prosthogonimus sp , Typhlocoelum cucumerinum, como especies de trematodeos e Trichostrongylus nigricinctus, Paramidostomum pulchrum, Tetrameres sp , Heterakis gallinarum, Heterakis sp , Hadjelia neglecta e Subulura sp como especies de nematodeos. Alem do levantamento e descricao dos helmintos, foi tambem descrita a biologia das aves, incluindo suas caracteristicas gerais, modo de vida e habitos alimentares. Das 11 especies de aves, 7 apresentaram helmintos ja identificados na literatura e destas, 3 sao hospedeiros definitivos de trematodeos e nematodeos, 3 apenas de trematodeos e 1 especie como hospedeiro definitivo de nematodeo. Para quatro especies nao foi encontrada, na literatura, nenhuma referencia a helmintos, embora haja possibilidade de infeccoes.
