Supervisory beliefs of cooperating teachers

Joseph E. Justen; Mark McJunkin; Herman Strickland

Abstract The supervisory beliefs of cooperating teachers are examined in this study. Supervisors’ beliefs determine the degree of control or structure the supervisor believes should be provided in training situations. These beliefs can be viewed along a continuum of unstructured (nondirective) to highly structured (directive) situations. A survey using the Supervisor Belief Inventory (Cummings, 1992) was conducted in order to determine the predominant beliefs of teachers supervising student teachers. The results of this study indicated that the most prevalent style was indirect.

Qualitative and Quantitative Research Trends in Special Education Journals

Jame E. Calder; Joseph E. Justen; Deborah L. Smith

This study investigated the trend in the number and types of research articles published in selected special education journals in 1968, 1977, and 1986. Results indicated that the majority of published articles were not data-baed. While some variation was found in descriptive and experimental research across the years, relatively stable rates were found in quantitative and qualitative research. Qualitative research accounts for a small minority of published research.
