g-Tensor anisotropy of DPPH in DPPH2

Joseph S. Chalmers

The ESR spectra of polycrystalline samples of the free radical 2-2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl in dilute concentration in the hydrazine are studied to determine the anisotropy of the g-tensor and the orientation of its symmetry axis. A satisfactory fit to the experimental spectrum is obtained with the hyperfine tensors as given by Holmberg, Livingston, and Smith, but not with the tensors obtained by Gamo, Masuda, Yamaguchi, and Kakitani.

Evaluation of a two-parameter nuclear density by means of pion-nuclear elastic scattering

Joseph S. Chalmers; Bruce A. Sauer

Abstract A two-parameter nuclear density function proposed by Antonov, Garistov, and Petkov with parameters for 16 O and 40 Ca is compared to other shapes for these nuclei. The comparison is made by calculating pion-nuclear observables and comparing with experiment. The AGP shape, with the reported parameters, is less successful than the other shapes considered. The data fit for the AGP shape can be improved by varying the nuclear shape parameters.

Calculation of the elastic scattering of pions from light nuclei at 450 MeV

Alan K. Dozier; Joseph S. Chalmers

A calculation is made of the elastic scattering of pions from /sup 4/He and /sup 16/O at an energy of 450 MeV. A single scattering optical potential is used with nuclear and nucleon form factors as determined elsewhere and the ..pi..N scattering amplitude expressed in terms of phase parameters. It is found that several of the N phase parameter sets can be readily distinguished by means of the ..pi..-nuclear scattering which they predict at this energy.
