The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has generated important changes in the education process. This paper presents an overview of u- learning as a paradigm that enriches the teaching and learning process at anytime, anywhere, and with any device. It proposes a new concept, characteristics, uses and application scenarios, and possible topics for research, looking for more reflection and projection in the theme.

This paper presents a wireless detection system for explosive atmospheres in underground coal mines based on the following methods: triangle Coward and diagram Bureau of Mines, as an alternative solution to the problem that exist in the highly explosive atmospheres in mines. Mathematical analysis and the measurement of the concentrations of the combustion gases in the atmosphere is performed by wireless data adquisition system based on ZigBee, and treated by a programming environment LabVIEW through a SCADA module.

Taking advantage to a maximum of the records that contain data regarding learning objects has been a widely studied task in various fields of research. Web semantics is one of the most promissory; this paradigm is used with the purpose of dealing with the significant heterogeneity expressed by different users of objects themselves (authors, teachers and students). Lyrebird was born under this perspective; it is a repository of learning objects which provides sufficient semantic information to facilitate the reuse of learning objects ranging from processes such as classification, search and retrieval of information implementing three ontologies which are: one to specify a Domain of knowledge, another to define a learning object and lastly a to model metadata.

Quality assurance in all industrial fields depends on having a suitable and robust inspection method which let to know the integrity or characteristics of the inspected sample. The testing can be destructive or not destructive. The former is more expensive and it does not guarantee to know the condition of the inspected sample. Though, it is used in sectors where the latter cannot be used due to the technical limitations. The second one is an ongoing research field where cheaper, faster and more reliable methods are searched to assess the quality of specific specimens. Once a suitable reliability and quality are achieved by using a specific method, the next step is to reduce the duration and cost of the associated process. If it is paid attention to the fact that most of these processes require of a human operator, who is skilled in the labour of interpreting the data, it can be said that those previously mentioned factors (process duration and cost) can be reduced by improving the automation and autonomy of the associated processes. If a robotic system is used this can be achieved. However, most of the algorithms associated to those processes are computationally expensive and therefore the robots should have a high computational capacity which implies a platform of big size, reduced mobility, limited accessibility and/or considerable cost. Those constraints are decisive for some specific applications. One important factor which should be considered to develop a low cost, small size and mobile robotic system is the design of the software and hardware of the sensor. If it is designed with a depth analysis of the context of the specific application it can be obtained a considerable reduction on the requirements and complexity of the robotic system. The appropriated design of the hardware and software of the sensor depends on the proper selection of the signal pattern which is going to be used to characterize the condition of the inspected sample. For ultrasonic waves the patterns are changes on amplitude, frequency or phase on the received echo because of the properties of a specific target. Some of those properties are attenuation, acoustic impedance and speed of sound, among others. Among the many applications of ultrasound, one of them which is important for the aerospace, automotive, food and oil industries, among others, is the material identification. Depict the fact that there are many ultrasonic sensors which let to identify the material of the sample being inspected, most of them are not appropriated to be implemented in a

Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) favor better scenarios for teaching and learning processes. Personal Learning Environment (PLE) improves the educational process. Under the computational and ubiquitous learning approach, a ubiquitous PLE model (uPLEMO), an example of a PLE design for teachers and its application in courses are presented here. Results of such model were very positive. The ubiquitous PLE model can be applied in any area of knowledge, for teachers, learners, companies or institutions planning educational processes based on ICT.

The industrial processes continuously require of better technologies which let to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and quality of their actions. One method to achieve this is based on the monitoring of the obtained sample or the industrial process itself. In this article is addressed the monitoring and the inspection of industrial products and processes through ultrasonic systems which analyze the behavior of the acoustic impedance. Some of the more important applications are in sectors such as energy, chemicals, aerospace, automobile, food, construction, among others. Although, the wide potential of this technique has been limited by the computational requirements of the algorithms associated with it, requiring of significant computing systems or devices, which is an obstacle for their implementation in small sensor systems. In this work is illustrated a novel signal processing method called Peniel, which has low computing requirements and has a significant circuital simplicity. This method was successfully implemented in a microcontroller of low computational capabilities.
