Implementation of a configurable controller for an AC drive control: a case study

Maria Imecs; Péter Bikfalvi; Sergiu Nedevschi; József Vásárhelyi

There are several different approaches to defining reconfigurable systems. Reconfigurable computing is also often called Custom or Adaptive. The significant potential for the acceleration of computing in general-purpose applications has been demonstrated (S. Hauck, 1998; J. Villasnor and W.H. Mangionesmith, 1997). Reconfigurable systems are those computing platforms whose architecture is modified by the software to suit the application at hand. J.M. Maciejowski (1997) gave another definition for reconfigurable systems. According to him, the reconfigurable (control) systems are important when a major failure occurs. The paper combines both approaches of reconfiguration in trying to give a solution implementing a reconfigurable embedded controller for the vector control of an AC drive.

Performance requirements of the Mojette transform for internet distributed databases and image processing

P. Serfozo; József Vásárhelyi; Péter Szoboszlai; J. Turan

In the last ten years there were intensive researches to find new methods for handling Internet distributed databases and image processing. One of these methods is the Mojette transform (MOT). This transform is an exact discrete Radon transform defined for a set of specific projections. The MOT is used mainly in image processing applications. There were several implementation using personal computers [8] and [9], but these application were implemented only for locally stored images. There are some applications where real time computing is a must, but the implementations before referred can not accomplish this requirement. The Mojette transforms implemented under different operating systems and for different processors presented below helps the performance analyses of the MOT and also let to conclude the need for reconfigurable hardware implementation. There is also analyzed the implementation of Mojette transform and inverse Mojette transform (IMOT) the implementation in field programmable gate arrays using reconfigurable platform. The paper tries to conclude the necessity for hardware implementation for real time processing. The paper outline the development work in order to create an embedded reconfigurable hardware based on FPGA board.

P. Serfozo; József Vásárhelyi; J. Turan

In the last twelve years there were intensive researches to find new methods for image processing. One of these methods is the Mojette transform (MOT). This transform is an exact discrete Radon transform defined for a set of specific projections. The MOT is used mainly in image processing applications. There were several implementation using personal computers. There are some applications where real time computing is a must, but the implementations before can not accomplish this requirement. There is analyzed the Mojette algorithm implementation for images of 256times256 pixels. There is also presented the implementation of MOT and Inverse Mojette transform (IMOT) on embedded reconfigurable platform. The paper outline the development work based on Xilinx ML310 board.

Run-Time Reconfiguration of Tandem Inverter for Induction Motor Drives

József Vásárhelyi; Maria Imecs; Csaba Szabo; Ioan Iov Incze

The paper presents a short introduction to reconfigurable systems and why are they used or should be used in control of AC drives. The reconfigurable vector control system is introduced and there are treated the reconfiguration problems. There is analyzed the reconfigurable control system and it is motivated the need for reconfiguration in motor control. The control of the induction motor fed by the tandem inverter needs reconfiguration if the supply is made only from one inverter instead of the both component ones. Finally a simulation and fast prototyping method is shown using Field Programmable Gate Arrays.

Optically powered industrial barometric system

J. Turan; Lubos Ovsenik; József Vásárhelyi

In this paper optically powered industrial barometric system is presented. Industrial barometric system i.e. systems to monitor air (or other gas) temperature, pressure and humidity are used in various control and monitoring systems in mines, chemical plants, petrochemical industry, etc. The basic properties, key elements and the system architecture are discussed.

Survey About the PSOC5 LABBOOK

Ahmed Bouzid; József Vásárhelyi

This paper falls within the context of practical works for embedded systems subject organised for students of the University of Miskolc. The LABBOOK collects lab materials and two mini-projects using Cypress PSoC 5LP (CY8CKIT-050) Development Kit and some discrete components. The kit is based on CY8C5868AXI-LP035 chip that includes ARM Cortex™ M3 microcontroller in addition to digital/analog reconfigurable area. Starting from a getting started guide and blinking LED test to familiarise with PSoC development tools, this training course material presents to students a set of labs with growing difficulty until they confront more complex designs and get prepared to face the mini-projects proposed in the end of the LABBOOK.

Fuzzy Rule Interpolation Based Object Tracking and Navigation for Social Robot

Roland Bartók; József Vásárhelyi

The human-robot interaction will be more and more important in the close future. The behavior based robot control is simplified using fuzzy control. If the robot is doing a complex task, its behavior can be described with fuzzy rules. This kind of control method can be is easier implemented then the classical ones. Using fuzzy rule interpolation when the number of rules is high, the system can be described by the significant rules only.

Pose Determination for Autonomous Vehicle Control

Ahmed Bouzid; József Vásárhelyi; Roland Bartók; László Czap

For the purpose of determining the position and orientation of a moving robot and autonomous vehicle, inertial sensors and magnetometer data are computed in order to enhance GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) data accuracy. This paper presents a method called hybrid localization that combines absolute localization, using exteroceptive data, and dead reckoning technique, using proprioceptive data. A positioning method based on dead reckoning technique is developed in this paper.

Parallel algorithms for concept lattice

József Vásárhelyi

The increasing interest on application of concept lattices in the different information systems results in several implementations and algorithm proposals and representation tools [1], [2] and [6]. The concept lattice may be used for representation of the concept generalization structure generated from the underlying data set. This paper analyses the possibility of algorithm parallelization and implementation in hardware, which allow the speed up of the search and database build.

MTTool Software Tool and Low Complexity Hardware for Mojette Transformation

Péter Szoboszlai; József Vásárhelyi; J. Turan; Péter Serföző

The Mojette (MOT) transform is a relatively new method for image transformation. With the use of MOT on images, multimedia files, distributed databases before information transmission became possible to reconstruct the data even if some part of information were damaged. The Mojette transform similarly to the Radon transformation calculate a group of projection on an image block. As result of this transform the processed image result in a file with redundant information about the image. There are several applications such as watermarking or applications on distributed databases. There were several implementations using personal computer, but these application were implemented only for locally stored images. The Mojette Transformation Tool which is developed in .Net environment with Csharp (C#) it is used for performance analyses on different computer platforms. While the hardware implementation called MoTIMoT developed as co-processing elements of an embedded processor using FPGAs tries to find a minimal implementation for low power applications such as mobile communications.
