The Effect of Deliberate Play on Tactical Performance in Basketball

Pablo Juan Greco; Daniel Memmert; Juan Carlos Pérez Morales

This field-based study analyzed effects of a deliberate-play training program in basketball on tactical game intelligence and tactical creativity. 22 youth basketball players, ages 10 to 12 years, completed basketball training in one of two equal-sized groups. The deliberate-play training program contained unstructured game forms in basketball. The placebo group played in traditional structured basketball game forms. Tactical intelligence and creativity was assessed before and after an 18-lesson intervention. Analysis showed significant training improvement only for the deliberate-play group. In addition, this outperformance of the placebo group was not only observed for tactical creativity but also for tactical intelligence.

Allocating congestion cost using game theory

E.L. da Silva; Juan Carlos Pérez Morales; A.C.G. de Melo

A relevant problem related to competitive electricity markets operating under the concept of pool model is the allocation of the congestion cost among the consumers. Typically, this cost is allocated to consumers using simple approaches such as pro rata criteria that fail to comply with economic efficiency requirements. This paper proposes an approach for congestion cost allocation based on the cooperative game theory, which satisfies the properties of economic efficiency.

Space creation dynamics (SCDs) describe actions players perform to create a scoring opportunity. This study compared SCDs and types of offense during three different three versus three (3vs.3) basketball small-sided games (SSGs) played in half court: 3vs.3 with man-to-man defense in half playing area (3vs.3HALF), 3vs.3 with man-to-man defense in full playing area (3vs.3FULL), and 3vs.3 with reduced shot clock (3vs.3RT). We also investigated the efficacy of SCDs in all SSGs and the reliability of SCDs in 3vs.3HALF. While the efficacy of SCDs did not differ among these SSGs, 3vs.3RT presented significantly more “space creation with ball dribbled” and “shot clock violations,” and less “on ball screens.” 3vs.3FULL presented no differences in the SCDs and types of offense compared with 3vs.3HALF. Reliability within 3vs.3HALF was higher for “space creation with ball dribbled,” “space creation without the ball,” “set offenses,” “fast breaks,” and “loss of ball during passing or dribbling.” We concluded that 3vs.3 basketball SSGs with different rules can be used for training different tactical behaviors important to formal games, especially since the 3vs.3HALF presented good reliability for many variables related to tactical behavior.

The study investigated the relationship between the Processual Tactical Knowledge (PTK) and experience. Soccer players from a top club from Belo Horizonte were evaluated and they answered a questionnaire about the variables of experience. The PTK was evaluated through the System of tactical assessment in Soccer (FUT-SAT). A Spearman’s correlation matrix was stablished for the data analysis using the software SPSS. 20.0 with a 0,05 level of significance. Results showed positive association between age and offensive tactical efficacy. Lastly, the variables as age, practice time and time in club didn’t showed impact about the PTK.

The objective was to evaluate the behavior of children tactical procedural between 8 and 14 years old in the game situation 3x3 with feet without finishing. The sample comprised 100 children (10.32 ± 1.45 years old). This instrument has a total of 16 items to be observed, with 4 items for each tactical situation or size (player without the ball on offense - JSB player with ball in attack - JCB, marking the player without the ball on offense - MJSB, marking the player with the ball in attack - MJCB). In Coefficient Content Validation (CVC), we obtained satisfactory values for the four situations evaluated. The reliability of the instrument was established by calculating the Kappa inter and intra-rater, showing consistency among raters. The instrument has idealized presents validity indexes to evaluate the procedural tactical knowledge of children in the areas proposed for modes that use the feet as a form of play.

knowledge. ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to establish the content validity of the tactical procedural knowledge test in basketball (TPKT-Bb), starting from the calculation of the content validity coefficient (CVC) as proposed by Hernandez-Nieto (2002). Seven basketball coaches (n=07) participated in the study. All of them were graduated in Physical Education and had a minimum of ten years experience in working with the processes of sports initiation, specialization and high performance in basketball. We have pro- posed 24 items to evaluate the behaviour of the players during individual and group tactical actions. During offense situations, the player was as - sessed when in possession of the ball and also when not. In the same way, on defense the player was evaluated when marking the ball-handler and also when marking the opponent not in possession of the ball. The content validity coefficient (CVC) was calculated by means of language clearness and practical relevance for each item of the instrument (CVC c ) and for the overall instrument (CVC t ). The results confirm that, for the purposes of language clearness (CVC t = 0,94) and practical relevance (CVC t = 0,91), the proposed items present satisfactory psychometric properties.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to analyze and describe the methodologies employed in the technical and tactical teaching-learningtraining (EAT) in mini-basketball. Materials and Methods: The sample consisted of 22 male students who practiced the mini-basketball category (10 to 12 years-old) and belonged to two groups (A and B) that were trained in different methods of EAT. The protocol developed by Stefanello was used to categorize and classify the training sessions. Results: In Group A, the use of situational and mixed method (named analytical-global) was predominant. In Group B, there was an emphasis on analytical method using. The calculation of χ2 confirmed significant differences between groups for conditions of tasks parameter. This parameter consists of individual foundation (χ2=14.48, p<0.05), combination of foundations (χ2=56.51, p<0.05), game complex 1 (χ2=45.75; p<0.05) and game complex 2 (χ2=45.8, p<0.05) categories. In tasks parameter there were also significant differences in the technical acquisition (χ2=23.45, p<0.05), in the technique diversification and fixation (χ2=22.5, p<0.05), in the technique application (χ2=10, p<0.05) and in the competition (χ2=46.21, p<0.05) category. Discussion: Therefore, it was observed that the use of alternative EAT methods focused on tactic improves the technical and tactical performance of basketball practitioners.
