The Stability of Chaos Synchronization of the Japanese Attractors and its Application

Hsien-Keng Chen; Tsung-Nan Lin; Juhn-Horng Chen

The synchronization of chaos of the two identical chaotic motions of the Japanese attractor has been studied. First, the stability of the chaos synchronization of the systems is investigated by Liapunovs direct method. Some sufficient conditions of global asymptotic synchronization are attained from rigorous mathematical theory. It has also been demonstrated numerically that applying two different kinds of one-way coupling technology can synchronize the two identical chaotic systems. The sign of the sub-Liapunov exponent has been used as an indicator for the occurrence of chaos synchronization. Chaos synchronization can be assured as shown well by phase trajectory. In addition, the chaotic signals are used to mask the message function in the secure communication system.

In this paper, the influences of parameters on the dynamics of a fractional-order Newton-Leipnik system were numerically studied. Impulsive synchronization of two fractional-order Newton-Leipnik systems was also investigated. The ranges of the parameters used in this study were relatively broad. The system displayed comprehensive dynamic behaviours, such as fixed points, periodic motion (including periodic-3 motion), chaotic motion, and transient chaos. A period-doubling route to chaos in this study was also found. Sufficient conditions on synchronization of the two systems are provided and illustrative example is given.

Run-by-Run Process Control of Metal Sputter Deposition: Combining Time Series and Extended Kalman Filter

Juhn-Horng Chen; Tzu-Wei Kuo; An-Chen Lee

By the time series model, this paper constructed the disturbance model for the aluminum sputter deposition process and derived the extending Kalman filter (EKF) controller based on this new disturbance model. Experimental results reveal that ARI(3,1) model appropriately characterizes the dynamic behavior of the disturbance for the processes. The EKF controller which includes information of process noise and measurement noise is able to regulate the model coefficients automatically as the target is replaced or degrades. In this paper, the d-EWMA controller, time-varying d-EWMA controller, age-based d-EWMA controller, and EKF controller have been applied to aluminum sputter deposition processes for predicting deposition rates and comparing their performances. The application of the EKF controller here is proven to improve the estimating accuracy of the aluminum sputter deposition process significantly, regardless of whether the deposition rates are measured at each run or not.

Application of advanced process control in plastic injection molding

Juhn-Horng Chen; Long-Jye Sheu; Wen-Chin Chen; Hsien-Keng Chen; Chen-Tai Chen

This research applies Advanced Process Control (APC)-based injection molding system to improve the quality of products. The relationships between the input parameters (injection velocity, injection pressure, injection time and barrel temperature) and a single output variable (the weight of product) were found through an experimental design method. Moreover, the injection molding process model was built via a multiple regression analysis. A dynamic model turning minimum variance (DMTMV) method is utilized to control the process. Quantified improvements were further obtained from experiments.

Foresight in static stiffness of hydrostatic bearings with various compensations by film gradient versus recess pressure

Yuan Kang; Cheng-Hsien Chen; Jian‐Lin Lee; Juhn-Horng Chen; Yeon-Pun Chang

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the static stiffness of hydrostatic bearings with three constant compensations in types of constant‐flow pump, capillary and orifice, and both single‐action and double‐action variable restrictors with cylindrical‐spool, tapered‐spool, and membrane types by film gradient and recess pressure.Design/methodology/approach – This paper utilizes the equations of flow equilibrium to determine the variations of film thickness or displacement of loading table with respect to the varying of recess pressure. For a hydrostatic bearing whose recess pressures are controlled by compensations, the stiffness characteristics can be presented directly by these variations.Findings – The usage range of recess pressure and compensation parameters should be selected to correspond to a variation with smallest gradient.Originality/value – This paper proposes an extensive database as a critical requirement for the selection of types and parameters of the compensation as to yield...

Long-Jye Sheu; Hsien-Keng Chen; Juhn-Horng Chen; Lap Mou Tam; Wen-Chin Chen; Seng-Kin Lao; Kuang-Tai Lin

This study demonstrates that complete synchronization of two Chen-Lee chaotic systems can be easily achieved. The upper bound of the Chen-Lee chaotic system is estimated numerically. A controller is designed to synchronize two chaotic systems. Sufficient conditions for synchronization are obtained using Lyapunovs direct method. Two numerical examples are presented to verify the proposed synchronization approach.

A quality control of the injection molding process using EWMA predictor and minimum-variance controller

Chin-Huang Sun; Juhn-Horng Chen; Long-Jye Sheu

In this study, EWMA (exponentially weighted moving average) predictor and minimum-variance controller were applied to improve the product quality in the injection molding process. To simplify the process model and reduce the system loads, design of experiments (DOE) technique was adopted to analyze the important factors which have the significant effects on the product quality and their relative correlations. The results of this research not only can steadily control the manufacturing process and reduce the product loss and maintenance time for un-warning malfunction, but can also increase the efficiency of the equipment and the process.
