A new type Warburg vessel and its application to the study of some kinetics of cholinesterase inhibition

A reaction vessel of a new type has been designed for use with the Warburg apparatus. The vessel is particularly suitable for determining rates of cholinesterase inhibition in vitro at short time intervals after mixing. The method has been used to obtain the rate constants for the in vitro inhibition of horse serum cholinesterase and bovine erythrocyte cholinesterase by isopropyl methylphosphonofluoridate, ethyl N,N-dimethylphosphoramidocyanidate and O, O-diethyl-S-ethyl-2-mercaptoethyl phosphorothiolate. The activation energy for the inhibition reaction with O,O-diethyl-S-ethyl-2-mercaptoethyl phosphorothiolate has been determined.
