A recursive student project to reinforce the principles of software engineering

Stuart Hope; Julian Terry

The majority of software engineering courses have students participate in and gain experience from a software development project, in order to prepare them for the real world. The simulation of formal management and technical reviews to increase quality in undergraduate software engineering projects

Julian Terry; Stuart Hope

Formal reviews are accepted in the software development industry as a valuable control mechanism used by management and steering committees to gauge a projects progress, provide direction and improve the quality of the system being developed. The introduction of formal management and technical reviews to student software engineering projects at Edith Cowan University (ECU) has resulted in quality improvements in the product delivered and the process used as well as providing substantial educational benefits. The underlying model for the review mechanism has been based on the ISOs SPICE project.
