Abstract This paper reports on an extensive 81 item, nine page questionnaire on practices and attitudes toward the Rorschach, held by university faculty members who teach it. The questionnaire was sent to departments of psychology of which there was reason to believe basic clinical instruction in the Rorschach existed. Respondents were to be those people actually engaged in the teaching. The detailed questionnaire covered such areas as structure and coverage of the course, purposes for teaching Rorschach, technique of administration and interpretation, its uses, characteristics of instructors, and research. Seventy-five per cent of the questionnaires were returned. The paper summarizes and considers implications of this information.

Data for 3 university student groups (ns = 76, 46, 77) are presented showing relationships between the Adjective Check List and the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule scored for 15 of the Murray needs. A considerable number of significant correlations of low absolute value were found. In general, the two measures seem empirically to have very little common meaning.

This study was devised to identify behavior reported in hospital admission records as leading to involuntary mental hospitalization. A survey of 101 such records was undertaken. Data were categorized with respect to legal criteria for hospitalization and behavior available in the records. Information in the records was woefully incomplete so reasons for hospitalization were unclear. The observation was made that on the basis of the hospital records, almost half the patients might be seen as being hospitalized without proper legal justification. Results are discussed with respect to social and legal aspects of involuntary hospitalization.

The Test of Social Insight (TSI) was utilized for a cross-cultural comparison of American and Thai university students. The data indicated that Thai students scored significantly higher on the withdrawal, passivity, competitiveness, and aggressivity subscales of the TSI than American students. Americans exhibited significantly greater cooperative tendencies than Thai students. Interpretative problems due to translation techniques, use of multiple t tests, and the structure of the TSI were discussed.
