Abstract Characteristic features are given for the Lamb-shift polarized ion source at the Tandem Accelerator Center, The University of Tsukuba. A spin-filter polarization method is used. This source has been in operation with the 12 UD Pelletron tandem accelerator since 1976. The beam intensity available on target is 100 nA with polarizations of 85% for protons and 80% for deuterons.

Recently the study of pod elastic scattering has been done both experimentally and theoretically with the hope of obtaining information about the two-nucleon interaction. I) It is widely believed that the two-body off-shell effect would not be important in the threebody observables. For example, Doleschall emphasizes the importance of the on-shell property of the two-nucleon interactions and pays little attention on the two-body off-shell effect in the series of his work of a very sophysticated Faddeev calculation. 1).2) In this short note, however, we show that the wave function of the deuteron, which is the half-off-shell property, has an important role in the observables of low energy nod elastic scattering. For this purpose we perform a three-body calculation with simple separable potentials and compare it with a new experiment performed at UTTAC. 3 )

Abstract Deuteron inelastic scattering experiments on 14 N are made at E d = 10.03, 11.65, 14.82 and 17.88 MeV, with emphasis on the isospin-forbidden excitation of the 2.31 MeV (0 + , T = 1) state. In order to clarify the reaction mechanism, we have performed analyses assuming both a direct reaction mechanism and compound nucleus formation. Direct reaction calculations using second-order DWBA reproduce fairly well the strong energy dependence of the angular distributions and of the integrated cross sections. Hauser-Feshbach (HF) calculations reproduce the pattern of the angular distributions in the lower energy region. For the isospin-allowed transitions the simple DWBA calculation gives reasonable agreement with the experiment. The present calculation shows that the observed isospin violation is well accounted for by a direct multi-step reaction mechanism assuming isospin mixing in the intermediate channels.

For proton‐deuteron elastic scattering, angular distributions of T11, T20 and T21 were measured at Ed=22 MeV, and those of T21 at Ed=17 and 20 MeV were also measured. For proton‐deuteron inelastic scattering, especially in the final state interaction region of proton and neutron, angular distributions of iT11, T20 and T21 at Ed=22 MeV were measured. The results and discussions are presented.

Abstract A very small tandem accelerator with 300 kV terminal voltage was constructed to obtain various technical data for the advanced design of a Lamb-shift typed polarized ion source for the 12 UD Pelletron tandem accelerator. The beam transmission for hydrogenic ions was as high as 40% at terminal voltages around 300 kV with carbon foil strippers of 10 μg/cm2 thickness.
