Ectoparasitic tantulocaridan crustaceans, Microdajus aporosus sp. nov., were found attached to the tanaidacean crustacean Meromonakantha macrocephala (Hansen) from 568 m in the Ross Sea. A single host bore on its pereiopods five expanded tantulus larvae with gestating males and two isolated cephalons of the parasite. Microdajus langi Greve is newly reported from the Gullmarfjord, Sweden. A recent comparison of tantulocaridan thoracopods to maxillopodan naupliar appendages is evaluated in the light of recent morphological and ontogenetic findings.

Abstract Seven species of tanaids collected from Franklin, Ross and White Islands, Antarctica, included four new species, of which two belong in new genera, are described: Andrognathia plumosa n. gen. et sp., Typhlotanoides insolitus n. gen. et sp., Pseudoparatanais antarcticus n. sp. and Leptognathia diversa n. sp. Distributions of the remaining three species are discussed.

A new genus and species of tanaidacean, Scoloura phillipsi (family Anarthruridae Lang, 1971: subfamily Akanthophoreinae Sieg, 1986) is described from Santa Monica Bay and Santa Maria Basin, California, and Coronado Island, Mexico. The new genus is distinguished from confamilial genera by the presence of a pair of large ventrolateral triangular processes on the pleotelson. Also, Tanaopsis cadieni n. sp. is described from Santa Maria Basin south to San Diego County, California. A key to the species of Tanaopsis is provided to help identify the known females and males of this genus. The males of T. cadieni cannot be distinguished from those of T. antarctica Lang, 1967 and T. curta Kudinova-Pasternak, 1984 until more detailed descriptions of the latter two species are done.

Abstract Zeuxo coralensis ‐ Anatanais ohlini (sensu Silva Brum 1973) is considered to be synonymous to this species—it is recorded for the first time from the coast of Brazil at Lazaro Beach, Ubatuba, Sao Paulo. The following aspects were also treated: description of postmarsupial stages; relationship between female body length and number of eggs contained in “ovisacs”;, and seasonal distribution of the sexes. The most important characters for determination are figured.

The Anarthruridae Lang are divided into two subfamilies, Nesotanainae subf. n, and Anarthrurinae s. str. The diagnoses are given and the most important diagnostic characters of Nesotanais lacustris Shiino are discussed. The Tanaidae Sars are briefly discussed and a description of Langitanais willemoesi (Studer) is given. Zeuxo Templeton has to be considered a subgenus of Tanais Milne Edwards.

Re-examination of the type material of Heterotanais capensis Vanhoffen showed that the species cannot be maintained in the genus Heterotanais, and a new genus Heterotanoides is here proposed for it. The lectotype of H. capenris is redescribed.

Summary Crustacea Tanaidacea collected by Prof. Dr. W. Noodt at the coasts of El Salvador and Peru. The species collected — Tanais stanfordi Richardson, Leptochelia savignyi (Kr⊘yer), Pseudo‐leptochelia filum (Stimpson), Heterotanais oerstedi (Kr⊘yer), and Teleotanais gerlachi Lang — are discussed. Some remarks are made concerning the Paratanaidae Lang. For Tanais stanfordi and Teleotanais gerlachi the differences with the known diagnoses are named. Both species are illustrated. Pseudoleptochelia filum is described and illustrated exactly. Except Leptochelia savignyi all species are new to the coasts of El Salvador and Peru.
