A careful design for a tool to detect child pornography in P2P networks

Iván Pau de la Cruz; Celia Fernández Aller; Sergio Sánchez García; Justo Carracedo Gallardo

This paper addresses the social problem of child pornography on peer-to-peer (P2P) networks on the Internet and presents an automated system with effective computer and telematic tools for seeking out and identifying data exchanges with pedophilic content on the Internet. The paper analyzes the social and legal context in which the system must operate and describes the processes by which the system respects the rights of the persons investigated and prevents these tools from being used to establish processes of surveillance and attacks on the privacy of Internet users.

Use of the new Smart Identity Card to reinforce electronic voting guarantees

Justo Carracedo Gallardo; Emilia Pérez Belleboni

The time will come when the electronic identity card or Smart Identity Card (SIC) — already being issued by some governments — becomes a tool that enjoys public trust for use as an electronic document. This paper explores the advantages of introducing use of the SIC in a telematic voting system (Votescript+) based both on advanced cryptography and on the power of smart cards. The paper defends the use of SIC as a decisive element for the identification of voters both within the process of obtaining authorization to vote and as part of the process of individual verification of results, and it provides a summary description of the system operation protocol in different phases.

Detection of distributed steganographic information in social networks

Alfonso Muñoz Muñoz; Justo Carracedo Gallardo; Sergio Sánchez García

The peak of the new communications and social interactions through the Web makes less effective the use of classic automated tools of data acquisition. The massive appearance of authentication mechanisms, closed groups of users and, especially, mechanisms like captchas, makes really complex that automated tools can, in a simple manner, compile information and analyze it later. This paper reasons out how the characteristics of the present social networks can facilitate the presence of steganographic information. SDA steganalysis architecture is shown. SDA is composed of different tools to solve, as far as possible, the commented analysis problems. The paper emphasizes one tool, DCST, adapted to the steganalysis of Web content, mainly dynamic, typically present in the new social networks.

PRNG based on new HCI devices entropy sources: Wii remote study case

Alfonso Muñoz Muñoz; Miguel Luis González González; Justo Carracedo Gallardo

This paper analyzes the possibilities of cutting edge HCI (HumanComputer Interaction) devices for random number generation. Their increasing presence in electronic devices is a fact, so they may be taken into account for PRNG. As an example, the Wii control device (Wii Remote) is analyzed. Among other characteristics, it includes accelerometers and an IR camera, which can be a valid source of entropic information. As these characteristics are appearing in other devices (for example, mobile phones), the aim of this paper is to study the reliability of these sensors as sources of non-predictive information, which could be useful in many areas. Standard algorithm methodologies are used to corroborate the analysis. Its usage as seed of a PRNG could be analyzed by other kind of tests, NIST SP 800-22 among others.

Analysis of electronic and telematic voting systems in binding experiences

Emilia Pérez Belleboni; Justo Carracedo Gallardo; Ana Gómez Oliva; Sergio Sánchez García

This paper is about analysis and assess of three experiences on telematic and electronic voting dealing with such aspects as security and achievement of the social requirements. These experiences have been chosen taking into account the deepness of the public documentation and the technological challenge they faces.

Digital identity applied to telematic voting involving European citizens. Social and legal implications

Emilia Pérez Belleboni; Sergio Sánchez García; Justo Carracedo Gallardo; Ana Gómez Oliva

This paper describes the characteristics of systems of electronic voting in which both the vote itself and the authorization to vote circulate through computer networks (telematic voting), with a focus on the problems arising from the need to ensure correct identification of citizens seeking to access the voting system in a Europe-wide environment. The advantages offered by such a system are discussed, as are the major social and legal implications these solutions may entail.
