Research on the influence of pigment-pigment interactions on the spectral and luminescence properties of porphyrin molecules is extremely important and is urgently needed, since in the majority of cases, porphyrins fulfill their biological functions not in an isolated state, but in the form of various groupings and aggregates. For example, in the photosynthesis process, chlorophyll functions specifically in the aggregated state, the chlorophyll dimer being a subunit of the reaction center. Nonetheless, both On the experimental and theoretical sides, the photophysics of aggregates of chlorophyll and related compounds has been developed to a considerably lesser degree than that of the corresponding monomers. Therefore, research on the simplest aggregates, porphyrin dimers, under model conditions represents a research area that is of undoubted interest at the present time.
