An Easy Route to 2‐Amino‐β‐C‐Glycosides by Conjugate Addition to 2‐Nitroglycals

2-Nitroglycals were found to undergo conjugate addition with a variety of stabilized soft carbanions. The Michael adducts from galactal derivatives were converted into bicyclic lactams.

Synthesis of (−)-coniine and (−)-pipecoline using ruthenium catalyzed ring closing metathesis

Abstract Ring closing metathesis employing the well-known Grubbs’ ruthenium catalyst has been used as the key step in the synthesis of piperidine alkaloids, (−)-coniine and (−)-pipecoline, and the asymmetric induction has been performed by using ( R )-α-methyl benzylamine as an auxiliary.

A convenient straightforward, three step, one-pot reaction of diethyl phosphite with thioesters in the presence of catalytic amounts of potassium tert-butoxide in toluene or DMF as solvent provided various phosphonate-phosphate containing compounds in excellent yields.
