A study on quality of experience of controlling a device remotely in an IoT environment

As great attention has been paid to the Internet of Things (IoT), which allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely, related research and standardization are being actively conducted. However, observing and controlling devices at a satisfactory level is still a challenging task. In our preliminary study, we proposed architecture that uses the users smartphone as an IoT gateway. In this paper, apart from several competing IoT standards, we compare and analyze how to control legacy devices remotely based on existing technology and its performance and quality level. In the experiment of controlling a car navigation system, we evaluate the response time and the data usage for our proposed platform and TeamViewer commercial product.

A Study on User Interface and Control Method of Web-based Remote Control Platform

스마트 홈 분야가 주목받고 있음에 따라 하나의 컨트롤러로 다양한 전자제품을 통합적으로 제어하 기 위한 연구가 진행되어 왔다. 기존 연구들은 별도의 범용 컨트롤러나 리모컨 역할을 하는 애플리케 이션을 개발하고 제품별 제어 화면을 구성하여 전자제품을 제어하는 방식이다. 그러나 이러한 방식들 은 전용의 컨트롤러를 개발해야 하고 전자제품마다 별도의 제어 화면을 구성하여 전자제품을 제어하 기 때문에 다양한 전자제품을 제어하기에는 적합하지 않다. 본 논문에서는 웹 기반의 원격제어 플랫 폼을 제안한다. 다양한 전자제품의 사용자 인터랙션을 분류하여 여러 장치에서 적용 가능한 범용 사 용자 인터페이스를 정의하고 API로 구현한다. 제안하는 API를 IPTV와 자동차 내비게이션 장치에 적 용하여 웹 브라우저만 있으면 제어가 가능함을 확인한다. 또한, 연속적인 제어 요청을 효율적으로 처 리하기 위하여 다수의 제어 요청을 그룹핑하는 기법을 제안하고 응답시간과 데이터 사용량의 개선을 확인한다.

Simulation Model for User-Perceived Service Availability

Traditional system-oriented measures are no longer adequate to describe the availability perceived by the user. In this paper we investigate the service availability model and the user behavior graph. And we propose the simulation model, which determines the sevice availability considering user model, system model and service model at the same time. Through the example, we show how to construct the UBG of user model, system model and service model. And we investigate the effect of the parameters of system model and UBG on the service availability.
