Design and evaluation of creative and emotional motion

Kaori Yamada; Toshiharu Taura; Yukari Nagai

In this study, we propose a method for the design of a creative and emotional motion. Our work is based on the hypothesis that a creative motion that is beyond the ordinary human imagination can produce emotional impressions that resonate with deep feeling. The proposed method involves computer implementation of motion blending, movement analogous to natural objects, rhythmic emphasis, movement of the entire design object, and sound-related effect. Using a computer system we constructed, we conducted two experiments that confirmed both our hypothesis and the effectiveness of our methodology.

Design of Emotional and Creative Motion by Focusing on Rhythmic Features

Kaori Yamada; Toshiharu Taura; Yukari Nagai

In this study, we develop a method for designing an emotional and creative motion that resonates with deep feelings. This study is based on the hypothesis that motion that is beyond ordinary human imagination can produce emotional impressions that resonate with deep feelings. The proposed method involves an analogy with natural objects, the blending of motions, and an emphasis on rhythmic features. In order to design an emotional and creative motion, we attempt to construct a computer system that implements the proposed method. An experiment to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method and the validity of our hypothesis is performed. We compare the impressions produced by the motions that are created in three ways, with an emphasis on their rhythmic features.

Here we propose an interactive system to augment creative design thinking using networks of concepts in a virtual reality environment. We discuss how to augment the human capacity to be creative through dynamic suggestions providing new and original ideas, based on specific semantic network characteristics. We outline directions to explore the structures of the concept network and their connection to creative concept generation. It is expected that augmented creative thinking will allow the user to have more original ideas and thus be more innovative.

MOTION DESIGN USING MIMETIC WORDS

Kaori Yamada; Yohei Koguchi; Toshiharu Taura

We are developing a methodology aimed at the design of new forms of motion that are more attractive to the human mind by blending motions obtained by mimicking the movement of natural objects. In this methodology, we focus on mimetic (reality-symbolic) words. Mimetic words express appearance and movements and can be understood as potential representations of those motions that are difficult to describe verbally. In this study, our objective is to create extremely creative and emotional motions from newly expressed mimetic words; just as new music is created from unique scores. First, we develop a method to decompose a newly expressed mimetic word into known mimetic words and actualise this method in the form of a tool. We then propose a procedure for creating a new motion from a newly expressed mimetic word.Copyright
