Introduction: Salmonella infections are one of the most common agents of food-borne diseases. Brandenburg serovar is more common in animals than in humans, and previous reports has been published on suppurative thyroiditis, peritonitis, abscess of the thigh, abscess of the endometriosic ovarian-cyst and haemorrhagic urethritis caused by Salmonella Brandenburg infection. Objective: Our aim was to demonstrate a separate case of Salmonella Enterica subsp. enterica serovar Brandenburg infection in a male presenting with symptoms of gastroenteritis with hidradentis suppurativa in a 6-month period in 2014. Case report: This article reports an unusual case of a male prison guard with good physical and psychosocial condition aged (38), who developed gastroenteritis, displaying vomitus and progressive diarrhoea of 5-day duration in June 2014, but after the antibiotic therapy, his symptoms had not ended. The local family doctor had not taken stool samples. Four months later, hidradenitis suppurativa and rosacea was detected by the prison doctor. The first examination of the stool culture and smear was positive for S. Enterica subsp. enterica serovar Brandenburg in December 2014. After several and different therapies (including dermatologists) with antibiotics, proton-pump inhibition and other agents, a final diagnosis has been revealed as the Salmonella infection. Following an oral 14-day course of ciprofloxacin treatment and B6 vitamin supplementation, the patient displayed a significant clinical improvement. Conclusion: According to our best knowledge, this is the first article to report the case of Salmonella Brandenburg-associated chronic gastroenteritis, rosacea and axillar hidradenitis suppurativa.

Introduction: Previous studies have identified Campylobacter jejuni, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella Typhimurium as the main causative agents of foodborne diseases in Europe. Objective: Our aim was to demonstrate two separate cases of Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Give infection in male prisoners presenting with symptoms of gastroenteritis. Case: We report the cases of two male prisoners, aged 47 and 32 years, who developed gastroenteritis, displaying vomitus and progressive diarrhoea with 2-day duration. The examination of the stool culture was positive for Salmonella Give. Following intravenous sodium chloride infusion, vitamin B6 and metoclopramide treatment, and a 7-day course of ciprofloxacin treatment, the patients displayed a significant clinical improvement. Conclusion: According to our knowledge, this is the first study to report the case of Salmonella Give-associated gastroenteritis in Central Europe.

The development of polycystic ovary syndrome and its exact pathophysiological mechanism is still unclear, but environmental and genetic factors likely play a role. Exposition to teratogenic effects during the prenatal development can lead to chronic diseases in the postnatal period. This finding confirms the common familial aggregation as well. A literature search was conducted up to January 1, 2016 for articles dealing with the genetic or epigenetic factors of polycystic ovary syndrome. This review will discuss the current understanding of the genetic basis and clinical presentation of this disease. Orv. Hetil., 2016, 157(32), 1275-1281.

A rising trend in advanced maternal age has been observed over the last few decades. Several studies have assessed the association between advanced maternal age and adverse pregnancy outcome, including miscarriage, stillbirth, pre-eclampsia, gestational hypertension, gestational diabetes mellitus, preterm birth, delivery of a small- or large-for-gestational-age neonates and elective or emergency Cesarean section. These studies reported contradictory findings. The aim of the present paper is to summarize the evidence-based information regarding advanced maternal age and pregnancy outcomes.

INTRODUCTION Sonographic measurements of nasal bone length and prenasal soft tissue thickness are ultrasonographic methods for prenatal screening of Down syndrome. AIM The aim of the authors was to create a local normogram for nasal bone length and prenasal soft tissue thickness measurements and to test the performance of different statistical methods. METHOD Euploid (N = 1500) and trisomy 21 foetuses (N = 10) studied between April 2008 and December 2013 were included. Nasal bone length and prenasal thickness measurements were performed at the Medisono Fetal and Maternal Health Research Centre, Szeged, and cytogenetic tests were performed at the Department of Medical Genetics, University of Szeged, Hungary. Normograms were created with different number of patients (N = 100, 300, 500, 750. 1000 and 1500) and using 3 different statistical methods (linear regression, square-based regression, and box-plot analysis). RESULTS The results indicated that at least 1000 measurements are strongly recommended for the normograms. The increase of patient number improved the efficacy of the normograms in each of the 3 statistical methods used for analysis. In general practice box-plots provides a better performance over the other screening methods. However, advanced level screening requires local linear normograms for the best screening results. CONCLUSION The use of box-plots is recommended for the use in the daily practice but regression-based normograms are necessary for advanced prenatal screening.

Results: For renal volumes, a high correlation between 2 and 3D measurements, and between 3D measurements on the left and right side was observed. Bladder volume assessment correlated well between the sono AVC and VOCAL technique. Urine production gradually increased with gestational age with a large interfetal difference late in gestation. Fetal venous and arterial doppler flow measurements in the left and right kidney did not differ significantly; the PSV increases gradually with gestational age. The PI for renal veins remains almost constant. There was a good correlation between renal volume, fetal urine production and PSV of the renal artery. Conclusions: Reference curves for renal volume, fetal urine production and renal Dopplers flow measurements in normal pregnancies are provided. These will serve as potential predictors for renal function in fetuses with renal and urinary tract pathology.

OP34.03: Prenasal thickness, nasal bone length and their ratio: good second trimester sonographic markers for Down syndrome

Andrea Szabó; Károly Szili; János Szabó; Dóra Isaszegi; Emese Horváth; János Sikovanyecz

Objectives: Our aim was to determine the accuracy of a novel simple scoring system based on sonographic markers in differentiating between low and high risk forplacenta accreta (PA). Methods: All women who were referred to the Sheba Medical Center due to suspected PA were included, underwent a detailed ultrasound examination. A score was given based on the common sonographic findings of PA: loss of the hypoechoic retroplacental zone and placental lacunae. A score of 0–2 was defined as low risk and 3 was defined as high risk. Patients assigned to the high risk category underwent prophylactic pelvic artery catheterization before cesarean section and embolization if needed, whereas patients in the low risk category underwent simple cesarean section. Results: 71 women were included. PA was diagnosed clinically during surgery in 28 women, of whom 31 had a score of 3, and ruled out in 43 women, of whom only one had a score of 3. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of our ultrasound-based scoring system in predicting PA were 90%, 97.5%93 and 95% respectively. Conclusions: A simple scoring system based on ultrasound alone can identify accurately a high risk population for PA who can benefit from prophylactic pelvic artery catheterization and embolization.

Objective: The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence of the skin diseases, dermatological conditions, and sexually transmitted infections among male prisoners. Materials and methods: The medical data of 1800 inmates were analysed and a local sero-biological survey was performed in 2014. Moreover, after informed consent, dried blood spots were collected to identify recent hepatitis C virus (HCV) and HIV infections in case of homosexuality and intravenous drug use. Results: Prisoners (n = 1800) were included in this study and 200 inmates with high risk of sexually transmitted disorder (STD) participated in serological tests. The most common dermatological diseases and STDs were atopic dermatitis (n = 70), scabies (n = 42), allergic reactions after insect bites (bedbug, mosquito, fly, and wasp) (n = 39), fungal infections (n = 1), psoriasis vulgaris (n = 10), eczema herpeticum (n = 1), erysipelas (n = 2), vasculitis (n = 1), and HCV (n = 2), whereas there were not found any HIV or gonococcal infections. Six HCV infections and zero HIV infections were determined in the study period. Conclusion: The present study shows a relatively high prevalence of infectious or atopic dermatitis among these populations.
