Philosophical underpinnings of student affairs work on difference

Kathleen Manning identifies seven philosophical positions in relation to the broad issue of difference. Recognizing and understanding where they stand in this matrix allows educators to work more effectively with students, faculty, and staff about the complex and sometimes contested issue of difference.

Metaphorical Analysis in a Constructivist Study of College Rituals

This article reports findings resulting from a constructivist study exploring the culture of a long-established, liberal arts women’s college as revealed through its formal, administratively sponsored rituals. The essay explains the metaphors offered by respondents to explain the ways they understand and make meaning of the ritual process so central to their college life.
